hey guys heres chapter 5 its kind of short though sorry, enjoy

When Darcy arrived at school the next day, she was pleased to know that everyone was there except Charlie, Ruby, and Meg. She quickly gathered the students in a corner, away from the teacher. “I have to tell you guys something. I know why Ruby is always late for school,” she said quietly. Everyone stared at her like she was crazy. Nobody was a big fan of Darcy.

“Yeah we all do too. She always wakes up late,” Henry assured her.

“Well she was lying. And keep your voices in whispers. We don’t want Mrs. Marigold to hear us!” Darcy was out of luck; Mrs. Marigold could hear every word. “Anyway, the truth is Ruby’s parents aren’t really her parents.”

“What? Of course they are. Who else would they be?” Dave asked.

Annoyed, Darcy told him and the rest of her class, “Stepparents, that’s who. And you know what they do to her? They force her to do all the work and if she doesn’t do it, then they beat her relentlessly. Who would want to be friends with a slave girl, let alone a dirty, disgusting orphan? I’ll tell you. No one, that’s who. Just like Margret, who is an orphan too. They are both dirty and disgusting.”

“No she isn’t,” someone said.

“Yeah we all like Ruby,” another student commented.

“You have no right to judge anyone Darcy,” someone else joined in.

“We don’t believe you,” another person contributed.

“Well don’t say I didn’t warn you,” Darcy said and walked to her seat, pretending she wasn’t hurt by how her class turned against her.”

“That’s enough Darcy,” Mrs. Marigold said sternly. “No one mention any of this talk to Ruby. We don’t want to hurt her feelings. Or Meg either.”

“Don’t worry Mrs. Marigold,” tom said. “We won’t mention it because we don’t believe it.”

“It is true,” Darcy mumbled stubbornly.

“I said that is enough! Even if it is or isn’t true, we still won’t mention it. Okay?” she firmly asked.

Everyone nodded their heads, even Darcy. Everyone quickly got in their desks and tried not to think about what just happened. When Ruby walked in with Charlie, everyone couldn’t help but stare at her, especially her black eye. “Why is everyone stating at me?” Ruby asked, a little annoyed.

“Oh its nothing,” Darcy said sweetly. “They are just staring at your eye because they all know how you got it.” The look on Ruby’s face confirmed Darcy’s story, and she turned to the class with a smirk. “I told you so.”

Ruby took one look at the class and burst into tears. She ran out of the room, and Charlie was quick to follow her. Chaos erupted in the classroom, and everyone turned to face Darcy.

“Look what you did!”

“Why are you always ruining everything?’
