Carson wakes up the next morning to a phone call from Stiles.

"Hello?"

"Um, can you pick me up? The Jeep broke down, for real this time," he answers. "I know you're still upset, but I didn't have anyone else to call."

"Alright. Send me the address," she grabs an outfit.

______

She lets him in the car, watching the Jeep move further away.

"Where am I taking you? Home?"

"No, the police station," he continues to stare at the spot where his car was.

"Can they fix it?"

"There's not enough duct tape in the world to fix that thing," he sighs.

"Why didn't you say something? I would've gotten it fixed."

"Because I wanted to deal with it myself. I- I thought I could deal with it myself. But now, it's got a bad alternator, needs all new belts, transmissions going. The brake pads are basically metal on metal."

"Why'd you let it get so bad?" she glances at him, and her words almost had a second meaning. "Why'd you let us get so bad?" is what she really wanted to say.

"Been a few distractions, if you haven't noticed."

"It's not like you'd let me close enough to get the chance," she mutters.

"Don't be like that," he looks to the side, avoiding her eyes on him. He really couldn't do this right now. She deserved more, an explanation, an actual conversation, but he couldn't lose another person in the span of 12 hours. Not because of Donovan.

"Like what? I have tried so hard to get you to tell me what's wrong, to get you to let me in, and you won't. And I don't know what I'm doing wrong here," she feels herself starting to tear up, but pushes it back down before she could cry.

"You haven't done anything wrong-"

"Then why wouldn't you tell me about Donovan? Why did I have to figure it out on my own?"

"You knew?"

"Yes, Stiles, I'm not an idiot, okay? I can tell when something's off, and I can connect the dots just as well as you can. I figured it out the night you told me to back off."

"Why didn't you say anything?"

"W-Why? Are you serious right now?" her face morphs into complete frustration, which meant he had to prepare for the inevitable screaming match. "Is it not obvious?"
