"I might miss you, who knows?"
KIARA'S POV:
His words hanged in the air, and I took them all in. "I'm sorry—what?"
Dabi shrugged like it was no big deal to him. "You have ears, right?
"I—" I paused.
It means you aren't falling for me, Kiara.
For some reason, those words were sent right through my chest. I didn't understand why or how, but here I was, processing his words.
It made me think to myself. Deeply enough that I was second-guessing, and that was something I would never do, especially as a pro hero.
But, I asked a stupid question—unless it wasn't. It was a question that I really wanted to know.
"What if I was?" I managed the courage.
Dabi's face didn't change, but I saw the slight change of his eyes widening just the slightest.
"Then you're crazy, doll-face," he shrugs, setting his glass down.
"So?" I pushed on. "Does that mean we wouldn't do missions together anymore? It would be too awkward? Is that it?"
He narrowed his brows. "Are you saying—?"
I cut him off before he could. "No—I absolutely not." Maybe I was a harsh, but it was a good way to not get involved in something like that.
He chuckled at that, a mocking smirk on his lips. "Relax, I'm just gonna be an acquaintance to you, doll. That's all I'll ever be."
That's all I'll ever be.
My chest tightened, and that's when I realized something I'd never thought was possible.
I like Dabi.
I want him.
I need him.
Clearing my throat, I tried to clear out my thoughts, denying every word spoken in my head. Something that I thought was impossible happened right in front of me.
Dabi must've sensed that there was a change inside of me because he spoke and asked, "You good?"
"Y-Yes—" cursing myself for stuttering.
He probably didn't believe me, but I didn't care. There was too much on my mind.
I turned to see him get up from the couch, facing me. "You wanna go for a ride?"
My cheeks turned red. "Sorry?"
He scoffs with a grin. "What's up with you, Carrots? Do you want to go on a ride on my motorbike?"
Okay, it wasn't what I thought— "Okay... but where are we going?" Slowly, I stood up and put on my shoes while following him outside.
"You'll see," he brushed off.
"I don't think I'd trust that coming from a criminal," I remarked.
