Have any of you ever gotten writer's block, but it's not really writer's block? You know what you want to write but you can't find the proper words to write it out? Yeah that's exactly what happened with this chapter. Twas rough, but hey, I did it.
Soon after the celebrations ended, Julie ran inside to tell her father and brother that they were performing at the Orpheum that night. Jay stood outside the studio making calls to both Flynn and CJ about tonight's performance. CJ was impressed that Jay had managed to get the band in and jokingly threatened to spill the beans if they were ever caught. Flynn screamed into the phone as soon as Jay broke the news to her and then told her parents, who both snatched the phone and gave their own congratulations to Jay.
Soon after the conversation ended, Jay walked back into the studio to find that Luke, Alex, and Reggie had disappeared. He wasn't quite sure where they had gone, especially Reggie and Alex. He assumed that Luke had gone to see his parents to gush over their Orpheum show happening tonight. Which makes sense, Jay said to himself. It was the opprotunity of playing an show at Orpheum that essentially attached them to Earth and kept them here as ghosts.
It was then that Jay suddenly remembered that they were running out of time.
They had a few hours at most before the performance and then they would all cross over, whatever that meant. That meant only a few hours before saying goodbye. But there was so much left to do, so much left to say.
Jay's mind went straight to a song that he had written in his notebook in the middle of class. Had he even learned anything in that class period, or was he that far gone?
Jay's eyes were drawn to his backpack, where that very notebook was. He quickly went over and picked it up, unzipping it and pulling out the book. He dropped the backpack on the couch, so that it lay against the couch arm.
Jay flipped through the pages of the notebook while he walked over to the guitar stand that held Luke's acoustic guitar. He put his notebook on top of the nearby piano while bringing the guitar strap over his head. Placing his hands properly on the body and neck, he walked around so that he could see the scribbles in the notebook easily and still play.
And so his fingers started to fly across the strings
"It might be alarming,
So sorry not sorry
I can not help myself to let this go
I gotta let you know,"Jay sung his heart out, though he was the only one in the studio at the moment. There wasn't anything to really be scared of anymore. No Uncle that could hurt him, no Aunt that yelled at him to stay in line, no anxiety that came with every chord that resonated from the guitar or note that came from his mouth.
"I'm building an army
Of courage to show me
The word to tell you how I really feel,
I really feel"There was a familiar whoosh and, without mising a beat, Jay looks up at Luke, who is looking back at him with bewilderment, though it quickly changes to elatedness as he smiles.
"L-O-V-E L-O-V-E
L-O-V-E
I wanna say somethin'
Say somethin'
I can't get over this
I wanna make something
Make something
Of this feeling that just won't quit"Luke's smile grew wider as both he and Jay moved closer to each other and Jay continued his song.
"It's deeper than an ocean song
It's bigger than a settin' sun
I wanna say somethin',
Say somethin',
I can't get over it
Can't get over it"Jay smiled as he moved into a guitar interlude, his hands having grown a mind of their own.
"This for me?" Luke asked, a cocky smile on his face.
