Chapter 39

I bit the insides of my cheeks with what she said.

"What is she like?" I asked her seriously but with humor.

"She's fair skinned, just as tall as I am— mga kasing tangkad mo." Humarap ito sa akin na parang ihinahalintulad ako sa taong tinutukoy niya. I laughed at her.

"Maganda. Mabait. Although, masungit minsan, but she's kind and loving." She added. I continued laughing as I was listening to her.

"May picture ka?" Pagtatanong ko pa rito para sakyan siya lalo.

"Yeah." She pressed the power button of her phone which revealed her lockscreen.

It was a stolen shot of me when I was still in Cebu. That was the day Cecille and I was walking around and I saw Sydney eating with Richard. Nakita niya rin pala ako noon. I smirked at what I saw.

"Maganda." I joked at her.

"Maganda talaga!" Mayabang na sabi ni Sydney sa akin.

"Kaso hindi mo pwedeng ligawan 'yan." Nangingiti kong sabi rito.

"Why not?" kumunot ang noo nito ng bahagya.

"She's leaving. Pupunta ng Espanya, para mag master's." Nakangiti ko pa ring sabi rito kahit pa totoo ang sinabi ko.

"Is that so?" She asked. Nawala ng kaunti ang sarkasmo sa hitsura.

I nodded and pouted my lips a bit.

"That's fine, I'll go to Spain every now and then if that's what it takes to see her." She smiled sadly and looked at the buildings in front of her.

"Just look for somebody else. She might not be ready soon enough." I smilingly said.

I was smiling but it's true. I don't want her to expect from me. Hindi ko alam kung kailan ako magiging handa. Bagama't alam ko na sa kanya lamang ako papayag na maging handa muli, hindi ko alam kung kailan ako magiging handang sumugal ulit para sa kanya. Along with my fears comes endless possibilities. At ayokong maghintay siya sa wala.

"I'll wait then." She said. Napaawang ang labi ko sa narinig.

She faced me. "I'll wait till you're ready," Buong puso nitong sabi sa akin. "Kahit five years pa ulit."

"Pero 'wag naman sana." Pabulong na habol nito sabay pikit.

Natawa lamang akong muli sa kanya.

Sydney became more persistent as days went by. Lalong kumapal ang mukha. There are times where I ignore her messages on purpose because she's just being annoying. Yet, her being annoying undeniably makes me smile all throughout the day.

I went back to Cebu as promised. And they were starting the renovation already. I had no plans on staying for long since wala rin naman akong gagawin dito. I just want to check on it and I'll go home right away. Sydney was not supposed to be in Cebu until next week but she re-arranged her schedule para maabutan niya ako rito. I could only imagine the hassle that her secretary went through. I scolded her for it because she doesn't have to do that. I told her that we're old enough to waste our time but she just rolled her eyes on me.

She really wanted us to try the activites here kaya humabol siya. Sabi ko sa kanya, I'll try it if I have the time, but she said she wanted me to try it with her.

"Ano ka high school?" Masungit kong sabi rito. Ang corny kasi niya. Parang akala mo teenager kung umasta.

"Hindi. In love." Sabi naman nito at saka ako kinindatan. Imbes na kiligin, ngumiwi ako rito at sinamaan siya ng tingin.
