(A/N: Major time skip to Regulus' 5th year because you guys want action and that won't be happening when Regulus is 11. Also, the maurduers are in their 6th year.)
I was sitting through defence against the dark arts. It had recently become the start of the new term, meaning a new defence against the dark arts teacher, just like every year.
"Can someone tell me what the three unforgivable curses are?" The professor asked. No one raised their hand. "You may shout it out," The teacher offered, "Alright, I'm going to have to call on someone," I sat in my seat, praying I wouldn't be chosen but as usual, luck wasn't on my side.
"Mr. Black, do you know?" The Professor called on me.
"Would you like me to name all of them or just one?" I asked.
"If you know all, you may go ahead."
"There's the imperious curse, used to control others. The killing curse used to kill," I paused mid-sentence.
"And the final curse?"
"The torture curse, also known as the cruciatous curse. Used to torture others into insanity." I said, explaining the curse that I know far too well, although the=an again, it's hard not to know it when your parents are death eaters.
"Very good Mr. Black, 10 points to Slytherin." The professor rewarded.
"Does anyone know the origin of these curses?" The man asked. The class was silent once again. "Anyone?"
"Weren't they made for killing and torturing others?" Asked a Gryffindor girl.
"Ah, but that's where you're wrong. Tonight's homework is to figure out the answer to my question. For this assignment, you'll have to think outside of the box. Don't be afraid to ask for help as you won't find the answer in plain sight. We'll discuss the answers tomorrow, class dismissed."
I walked out of the classroom in thought. 'What could the origin be?' I wondered. Defence against the dark arts was my last class for the day so I decided to go to the library to finish my homework.
I quietly walked through the library, passed Madam Prince and towards the defence against the dark arts portion of the library. As I got over there I spotted Lily and Severus searching through the books, determined to find something.
"I'm guessing you guys had defence today as well?" I asked.
"Yes, and the answer isn't anywhere," Severus groaned.
"What's the homework about?" I questioned.
"We've been tasked to find the origin of the unforgivable curses and no book has the answer," Lily explained, putting down the book she was searching.
"You guys had that lesson too?" I asked surprisingly, usually, every year gets different lessons from the others.
"Odd, wanna help us looks?" Lily asked.
"Sure. So, what do you guys think of the new teacher?" I asked.
"He's kinda odd," Severus said.
"Yeah, and he teaches like no other teacher," Lily added when Remus, with Sirius and James trailing along, approached.
"You guys looking for the answers to Defence too?" Lily asked, sighing.
"Mhmm, Remus is forcing us to do our own research for this assignment this time," Sirius said, sadly.
"Oh no, you have to do your own homework! *Gasp*" I exclaimed, sarcastically.
"Yeah, good luck, we can't find any information on the subject," Lily added.
"Regulus, you have the same homework?" James asked.
"Yup, I'm pretty sure, because of the number of people in this section of the library right now, most years got the same lesson, or at least the 4th years and above."
"Great, how about, we wait for someone else to find the answer, surely the seventh years can figure it out on their own," Sirius offered, earning a glare from Remus.
"Where's Peter?" I asked as Severus went back to reading, trying to ignore the three Gryffindor males.
"Huh?" James asked looking around, probably didn't realize he wasn't there.
"He must be with that Hufflepuff girl he was getting close with, my guess is that they're dating," Said Remus.
"How did Pete get a girlfriend before any of us?" James asked, shocked. "O-or boyfriend," James added, at the last minute, making the others look at him oddly for a minute. "W-what? I don't judge," He let out a little laugh.
"Neither do I," Sirius added, Remus nodded in agreement.
"Anyways, pick up a book and start helping us," Lily interrupted.
"Anything for you Evans," James said with a grin.
"Great, then stop talking," Lily said with a stern glair.
"Gosh, you're even starting to act like a snake," James joked.
"Good because last time I checked, you don't like Slytherins," Lily shot back.
"Well, I-" James was interrupted by Madam Prince.
"Shh! No talking!" She yelled, yet it was in a hushed whisper.
"Sorry," James mumbled, before seeing Madam Prince was still glaring at him and he quickly turned away from her, grabbing a random book off the ground.
"We've already gone through that book, read this one," Lily said, replacing the book James had in his hands before with a different one.
The six of us sat on the floor scanning through the books for around two hours, before we gave up and went to get dinner as James and Sirius had already given up and were laying on the floor, on their stomachs talking about a new prank.
"How is it possible the answer wasn't in any of those books?" Asked Lily,
"I don't know but we've been searching for hours!" Sirius complained.
"The four of us," Remus said, direction to the four of us who were actually trying to do our homework, "Were searching for hours, you two," Remus made a hand jester towards his two friends, "were too busy joking around," Remus stated.
"Well we were in the library for hours, I don't like that place," Sirius corrected himself.
"I'd be surprised if you've ever actually been in there," Severus mumbled under his breath, although it was too quiet for any of the others to hear, I, being right next to him, heard him loud and clear, making a snort at his comment.
"What's your problem?" James asked me.
"Nothing, nothing," I said, putting my hands up in defence.
(A/N: Happy pride month)
