The footsteps weren't heard leaving their spots from right in front of the door leading to the office where their small group was taking cover yet it was utterly silent. There was no sign of anyone being on the other side of the door and no sign of anyone walking away either.

All that could be heard was the sound of their beating hearts in their chests, draining out all other noise.

No one would talk. They all refused to do so in case they were heard, it was too risky.

It probably wasn't the best idea to let James create a trail of glowing goop leading right to where they were hiding but it was too late to do anything about that.

James was still covered in glowing goop but it was dried now so he was just glowing and now dripping goop, but that also meant that the goop in his hair had dried which bothered James immensely.

Time was flying by fast. If it wasn't for the fact that their hearts were racing and their breaths were uneven, they might have fallen back to sleep. Their eyes were drooping and their bodies still felt like shutting down but they were much too scared to do so.

When they had woken up it was very early in the morning, probably sometime around two or three am but they no longer had a sense of time.

After waiting... and waiting... and waiting, no noise was heard from outside of the room. They no longer knew if someone was waiting on the other side for them to open the door or if their minds were playing tricks on them and they didn't want to know because if someone was, what would they do? They were defenceless, scared and tired.

Now, they were all sitting on the floor, leaning against the wall in a close huddle, not bothering to move in case they made any sort of sound. They were even careful when breathing because even though no one outside of the room would be able to hear their breathing, they were paranoid and taking precautions.

"They're probably gone," Remus whispered, barely loud enough for the others to hear.

After Remus spoke, the others stayed quiet for a few more seconds but there was still no sign of movement.

"Or they want us to think that," Sirius mumbled.

"If they do, then they can come in and kill us themself but if they are going to just stand outside of the door and wait for us to come to them, then I'd rather just go out there," Muttered Regulus.

"So you'd rather let yourself get killed?" James asked for clarification.

"I mean if we're going to die anyway-" Regulus was interrupted by his brother.

"We're not going to die. We'll be gone by Christmas," Sirius promised in a hushed voice.

"You can't just say 'we're not going to die,' and then say a sentence that makes it sound like we'll be dead by Christmas," James hissed.

"I meant we'll be out of this god-forsaken house by Christmas," Sirius clarified.

"We won't be able to get 'out of this god-forsaken house by Christmas' if we don't leave this room," Regulus spoke in a drowsy voice.

While the rest were still talking quietly, Remus got up and walked over to the door as slowly as possible, making sure not to step on any squeaky floorboards.

"Remus!" Sirius Exclaimed, no longer whispering, making James and Sirus' hearts race. Remus wanted to roll his eyes at his boyfriend but stopped himself and instead reached for the doorknob and slowly turned it.

It felt like an eternity that they waited for Remus to pull open the door but when he did, they held their breaths. The door was slowly pulled open to reveal nothing, or at least nothing that could be seen at first sight or for James, Sirius and Regulus who were sitting behind the desk and weren't able to see anything that may have been closer to the ground.
