Part 4: Boy, He is not Making it Easy (Thursday)

Since morning I kept bumping into Adam and his friends almost every time I changed classrooms. He grinned and nodded towards me as a greeting each time. His friends just glared at me but didn't say anything. Just as I was entering the cafeteria, he caught up to me and was now walking next to me: "Hey, wanna eat lunch together?" Oh no, I was hoping this wasn't the reaction to my silly jealous outburst yesterday. Now he thought I was starting to warm up to him. I really did like him; he wasn't such a jerk that I had initially thought he was, and I did start to enjoy his attention. His good looks didn't help my case either.

But all that just made it so much more painful what I have set myself to do. I was going to reject him for my pack, because I knew they needed me to lead them. I was raised and trained for it, and I also really wanted to become their Alpha. I would hurt the whole pack if I left them, and they would be defenseless without a proper leader. My father would be able to do it for maybe ten more years, but he would be too old for it after that. It was just not an option for me to leave my pack.

"Sorry, I already promised my group I will eat with them," I lied. "Alright, later then!" he said and took off. "Ok, what was that?" I thought to myself. I was glad he left, and I sat down with my usual group. Today Jake brought me lunch, and we all started eating. Suddenly I heard someone behind me: "Hey, make some space!" As I looked back, my jaw almost dropped, and so did everyone else's around me when we saw Adam standing there with his tray trying to sit next to me. Gina scooted over, and he really did sit down next to me. Everyone at the table was from my pack, and we all just stopped eating and glared at him without making a sound.

"Go on, continue whatever you were talking about," he said casually and popped a French fry in his mouth. Everyone was still in shock, and as no one said anything, I broke the silence: "Right, we have some pack matters to discuss, leave us, please. I will catch up with you later!" They all just stood up and left immediately. As they were leaving, Lara winked at me and smiled knowingly. I just rolled my eyes at her.

After they were gone, Adam was just sitting there next to me, eating his fries and grinning at me. It made me think for a moment that sitting there alone with me was his plan all along. "So, what's up?" I asked and narrowed my eyes at him. "Yeah, I thought we should talk about what's going on here. I feel something is bothering you, and I just want to know what it is," he said. He was so right, though, but I was surprised he would be so ignorant about the problem our bond could cause to our packs. I sighed audibly and thought to myself: "Oh well, some people just need it spelled out for them." Now was as good time as any, as he was basically begging for it. "I actually did want to talk to you. The thing is that..." was all I managed to say as we heard a loud noise of glass breaking and some people shouting and arguing just outside the cafeteria.

A fight just broke out. Adam was on his feet immediately and darted towards the fight. I ran there just behind him. If there were our wolves fighting, I had to stop them before anyone got hurt. Wolves were incredibly easy to become irritated, and especially at their young age, they loved to fight.

Adam was there first, and he got right next to the fighting pair. About twenty more guys were standing in a circle around them, and some of them were not far from joining the fight themselves. There was broken glass everywhere, and if anyone fell on the floor, they would actually get cut. Adam made his way between them, evaded a few punches, and strongly pushed them back and away from each other. "Enough!" he shouted and glared at each and every one of the surrounding wolves one by one.

He was very tall, and he actually did look very intimidating standing there between them. They all stopped and looked at him. "What's going on? Why are you fighting?" he asked sternly to both groups. "They were sitting at our usual table!" one of Adam's pack members shouted angrily. "Your table? How were we supposed to know it was yours if no one is there?" Rex from our group replied. When I looked in the direction of my pack, I realized they were the same guys that I sent away from our table a little earlier. They must have gone outside and unknowingly taken the table that normally belonged to the other group. It was my fault that they were forced to take another table in the first place.
