Adam's POW

We took one of the cars we found at the site to bring Julianna home. I was sitting in the back with her, Lee drove, and Gina was in the passenger seat while I asked Johny to lead the rest of the group back by foot. They were all giving me sympathetic looks, and I hated it. I know they meant well, and they all cared about her, but I hated that anyone felt sorry for me. I was the future pack leader, and I should be the one worrying about them.

We dressed her in some clothes we brought with us and used some extra clothes to tie them around her wounded shoulder to stop the bleeding, but she had already lost a lot of blood, and she seemed weak.

She was unconscious all the way back home. I had her head on my lap, stroking her hair and brushing my fingers over her cold forehead, but there was really nothing I could do. She was a werewolf, so she had the ability to heal fast as we all did, but she just lost so much blood that I was afraid she wouldn't make it. I felt completely helpless, and it was the scariest feeling I had ever known in my life.

I called my dad when we got into the car. I told him we found her and also to prepare for an attack led by Henry. I asked him to send the pack doctor to wait for us at the northern border of our territory by the road, so he could hop in the car and see her as soon as we got there.

I also called her father, told him about how we found her and told him about the attack as well. He said he was already half expecting that, so he had already started making preparations. I also told him I was going to take Julianna back to my house. After a short pause, he agreed but only under the condition if he could send some guards to watch over her. I couldn't really say no to that. The more guarded she was in these times, the better. The enemy was coming, and they wanted revenge on both of our packs, but Julianna was really the heart of the dispute.

When we arrived at my parents' house, it was already dark. Pack doctor was in the car with us for the last two hours, and he gave her a blood transfusion immediately. He said she looked weak, but the fact she was still alive meant her body was already working on recovery. She was a strong Alpha wolf, and I was telling myself that Alpha wolves just don't die that easily.

We placed her on my bed, and the doctor set up another transfusion. The doctor said we had to wash her and clean her wounds, but I really didn't want him to do that. Despite the situation, my wolf hated the idea of anyone seeing our mate undressed. The fact that she was completely naked when we found her at the hut earlier would normally be too much for my wolf to take, but I think he was just too happy to see her at that time and then too shocked by her state to react to it.

When my mom noticed my uneasiness, she offered to wash Julianna with a wet cloth and then dress her before the doctor could clean up the wounds. At first, I wanted to do it myself, but after seeing so many bites and cuts on her body, I just got so upset that my mom asked me to leave the room for a while. There was still a bag with Julianna's clothes she left the previous time in my room, which came really handy at this moment.

After they were done, Julianna was still unconscious, but I wanted to stay next to her just in case she woke up. Eventually, there was nothing anyone could do anymore, so we sent the pack doctor to sleep in the guest room just down the hall.

My mom stroked Julianna's hair gently and kissed her forehead, then she hugged me and said: "Adam, she will make it; I just know it. Everything will all be alright, you'll see." Those words helped me feel a little better. I desperately wanted to believe her, but I just had to see it happen to really believe it. My dad only nodded to me before leaving the room, but I could see a glint of sympathy in his eyes. After living with him for all my life, I knew all his little gestures and that he meant well even when he said little.

After they all left my room, I was left alone with her. I lay down next to her, careful not to touch her because I didn't want to crush her with my body accidentally when I slept. I only took her unmoving hand in mine and looked at her for a long time. I was ecstatic that we found her after the long search, but the sight of her was just heartbreaking. She was unconscious and completely powerless, which was such a big contrast to how strong and active she usually was.

She really was an extraordinary person. I knew she will be a great leader one day as she was already showing great potential. I was now ashamed of how I once thought a female Alpha was a joke.

Sometimes I thought she will be even better than me as she always knew exactly what to do. She always thought about the pack and what was best for them too. No one could say she wasn't physically strong either, especially after what she did this morning at that hut. Taking down thirty wolves at once was just mind-blowing. Everyone will bow down to her after they learn what she did. I was really proud of her just for that. If only she would wake up and get well again. That was my only wish at the moment.

After a long time of just looking at her, I carefully nuzzled against her hair, and then slowly, sleep came for me at last.
