Adam's POW

I was awakened by a knock on the door early in the morning. I got up, opened the door, and I was surprised to see it was my dad.

He said the trackers spotted some strange wolves nearing our territory early in the morning, which most likely meant the battle with Henry was coming. He came to ask me to join the fight with him.

He had already called Thomas, Dominic, and Craig, the Wolf's Bane's Alpha. After I told him Julianna made a deal with Gregory, he was trying to coordinate with him as well, but Gregory seemed hard to work with. He seemed to dislike following anyone's instructions, so in the end, he only said he would come, but on his own terms, so we had no idea when exactly he would show up and how many wolfs he would bring.

Julianna still hasn't woken up. At night I woke up and checked on her a few times, but her condition was unchanged. At one point, I felt her squeeze my hand lightly, but that was all, and she didn't move again, so in the end, I wasn't even sure if it was real or was I only dreaming.

I snuggled against her neck gently and tried to calm myself and my wolf by inhaling her scent. I was not a religious guy, but at that time, I begged the moon goddess, the forest ferries, and the black ghosts of death not to take her away from me. If there was only one wish I could make in my entire life, this would be the one.

I really wanted to go with my dad and fight Henry more than anything. For what he did to Julianna, he deserved a painful death along with all his dogs. I was reluctant to leave Julianna, but the pack doctor told me she was doing well and was already out of danger.

When we inspected her wounds, they were all starting to heal except for the big bite on her shoulder, which still looked really bad. I caught a glimpse of my mark, which looked intact, and I was relieved just for that. I knew it couldn't be erased after we had mated, but since our talk with Gregory, I had this irrational fear that someone would try to bite over it anyway.

I was sure that Henry still really wanted her. Even more than my mark being erased, I was afraid someone would try to hurt her and force her against her will. But no matter what happened, I would have never rejected her, as long as she still wanted me.

I forced myself to get these dark thoughts out of my head because there was no use in brooding while the bad guys were still out there. So first, I had to make sure she was safe, then I had to go and make sure no one would ever hurt her again. That was my master plan, and I was determined to make it happen.

My mom promised to stay at Julianna's side at all times, and Thomas sent twenty guards. Not until my father agreed to spare another twenty was I willing to leave with him.

I only asked for another five minutes with her. I sat on the bed next to her, just looking at her and brushing my fingers against her face. She looked so peaceful. I kneeled next to the bed and hugged her, careful not to put any pressure on her.

When my dad came in for the second time, this time telling me Henry had arrived, I knew it was time for me to go. I kissed her lips gently and promised to her and to myself to be back soon.

As soon as I got outside, Lee came up to me. He was my best friend and my future Beta, so that was not unusual. But what did surprise me was that he asked about Julianna. I had a feeling he didn't particularly like her from the beginning, but I didn't care too much about what he thought of her. "She's still unconscious, but the doctor said she is slowly getting better. Why? I thought you didn't like her," I was genuinely curious now. "You know, she's cool. I wasn't her biggest fan before, but she's ok I guess," was his only answer before he turned to other guys and my dad, who was making his way out at that time.
