Julianna's POW

When I woke up, the world around me was completely dark. I didn't know where I was or what had happened to me. When I tried to move my body, everything hurt, but the worst was my shoulder. I couldn't even move my right arm because the pain was too severe.

Then I remembered the fight and the wolves at the hut who wanted to take me to Henry. For a moment, I thought I was back in that dark cell, but somehow this bed was much more comfortable than the bench I had in there.

And everything around me smelled like Adam. I remembered then that he came after I killed all those wolfs, but I couldn't remember for the life of me what happened next. "Adam? Adam!" I tried to call him, but my voice came out quiet and raspy. There was no answer. I tried to feel around the bed with my left hand, but there was no one there.

A few moments later, the door opened, and a tall, slender figure came into the room. For a moment, I thought it was him, but when the tall figure switched the dim light on, I saw it was his mom.

She came to sit next to me on the bed. "Hey sweetie, you woke up! How do you feel?" she said gently with a warm smile on her face, looking at me with those familiar chocolate-brown eyes. She inspected my face with her eyes and felt my forehead with her hand.

"I'm... I don't know; my body hurts. Where's Adam?" I asked what I wanted to know most at that moment. "Sweetie, take a rest now, and I will tell you everything in the morning. What matters for now is that you are with us again. You will be well again soon enough."

What she said got me even more worried. Why wouldn't she tell me where Adam was? "Is he alright? Where is he?" I tried again and did my best to sit up, but my body sent pangs of pain through my shoulder, which made me lay back down again. "He is fine, as I heard last time from him yesterday. There was a big battle. But you shouldn't worry too much now. He will be back with you again soon," she said, looking at me with concern.

I wanted to get up again as I was determined to go to the fight myself, but a sharp pain shot through my shoulder again. Brigitte placed her hands on my other shoulder and pushed me back down gently. "Please don't try to get up anymore. The wound is really deep, and it will start bleeding all over again if you move too much. You barely made it. We were so worried about you for the past few days. The doctor told us to keep you in bed for at least a week, so the wound can heal properly."

Even after hearing her, I was still skeptical about their decision. Wait, I was out for days? I had to get out and see what was going on. Then, as if she could guess what I was thinking, she added: "Besides, you won't be useful to anyone if you are going around just about to collapse again." Those words finally convinced me, and I relaxed again against the soft pillow.

She chuckled softly at that and said: "You really are a fierce one, aren't you? Now please take a rest and try to sleep some more. I will tell you everything I know in the morning." With those words, she kissed my forehead and left the room.

As I closed my eyes, all the events of the previous days played over and over again in my mind. The fight Brigitte was talking about must have been the one with Henry. She seemed relaxed, so I hoped that went well. But, even if I was partially relieved to hear that Adam was fine, it took a long time before sleep took over again.

I had no idea how long I had slept, but I woke up from a sleepless dream abruptly and immediately called for Brigitte. I had no idea what time it was, but I was anxious to find out everything that had happened. Through the window next to the bed, I could see that it was bright outside, and my body was already starting to feel a little better than before.

She came in with a big bright smile, saying: "Good morning, sunshine! You look better today. Finally, your face has some color! Are you hungry?" Now that she mentioned it, I realized I was absolutely starving. I just nodded.
