When I came to school the next day, Adam wasn't there waiting for me. It made me feel as he had given up on me, and that made me sad. I did my best to brush it off and try to just concentrate on my classes. But, as I could sense Adam around, it was hard to distract myself.
After the third period, I walked down the hallway discussing some school project with Elliott, my science class labmate. He was a human, but that didn't bother me because I was friendly with everyone. We were walking down the hallway when Adam stormed to my side and pulled me towards him possessively. "She is my girlfriend, back off!" he yelled at poor Elliott, who jumped away in shock and didn't know what to say as he didn't do anything wrong. "Elliott, it's ok, you can go. I will catch up with you later," I said to him as calmly as possible, even though I was fuming inside. He quickly turned around and almost ran away, then I turned to Adam: "What the hell was that? What are you doing?" I was angry because this was so stupid. "I should be asking you the same thing! What are you doing? I am away for a while, and you are already looking for replacements!" he looked so angry I thought he would shift right there.
"Let's go and talk outside," I said in a commanding tone and pulled his arm to get him to go along with me. He didn't look happy, but he did as I said. It was the start of a lunch break, so it was the perfect time to talk without missing any class.
Once we got outside, I let go of his arm, and we were just walking next to each other without touching or talking. Even without saying anything, we knew where we were going. We made our way behind the tennis courts, the same place he took me when I was going to reject him.
When we got there, I said with as much control I could muster: "What was that all about? I was just talking to my labmate." Adam was just quietly glaring at me and scowling for a while before he finally spoke: "Are you going to reject me again?" "No, of course not! Oh my goddess, is that what you have been thinking?" "You know, things haven't been great between us lately, and you probably think it would have been easier if we weren't together," he said with a pained expression on his face.
"Adam, I don't want to reject you ever again. I told you last week that I accept you as my mate and later I asked you to mark me. I am your mate, and you are mine, and that is never going to change no matter what!" He probably thought I wanted to change my mind again about him, but that wasn't the case. I didn't think I would change my mind about him ever again, and I needed him to know that.
"So you still want to be with me?" he asked quietly. "Yes, I want you more than anything!" I said honestly. "Alright," was all he answered. "Alright?" I repeated, not understanding where he was going. "Alright. We can build from here. If our fathers want to decide about us and our fates, we can make our own plan too. If we decide to stay together, there is no way they can break us apart," he explained.
My lips were tugging into a grin. I liked where this was going. "I'd like that. And what about our packs? What would you like to do?" I asked him. "I am ok with either merging both packs into one, and we are both in charge, or if we keep two packs as they are, and each of us will be in charge of our own pack only. I would imagine in that case we would have a strong alliance then, and we would closely connect both packs." "I agree with that. However, it would probably take some time to merge both packs, so starting with two packs would probably be best," I said.
"But if there is no other way and our fathers turn everyone against us, I would run away with you. You are the most important to me, and I can't imagine losing you," he said with a sad smile as if he thought I wouldn't want to leave everything for him. "Adam, if there is no other way to be together, I will go with you too. I don't want to spend another minute without you," I told him, hoping he will understand how much he meant to me.
