Liberosis (A Marauders Era Fanfiction)

Five

Tonight's the annual Marauders Halloween party. Lily insisted on still having it and she helped Sirius and Remus and Peter plan it despite being short 3 marauders. I'm going to go because there will be alcohol and Liam. Reg being there is a plus to but I know I will have to share him with James so I don't count on having his company.

"Are you going to get ready with us Lily asks as I'm about to leave the dorm, her voice sounds half hopeful half sad like she already knows what my answer would be.

"I'm not dressing up" I say. I'm already wearing casual muggle clothes and my hair is half pulled up my makeup having been done since this morning could probably use a touch up but I don't really care.

"Oh okay" she says sad but not wanting to fight. I walk out and go to the Hufflepuff dorm. I wait outside for Liam to come out. He does wearing a simple costume of a biker dude. A ghost of a smile makes it's way onto my face because it reminds me of Sirius but I quickly shake that thought off.

"You ready sweetheart" he says coming up and giving me a sweet kiss on the cheek. Sometimes I feel bad because it feels like I'm using him but I really do like him and if I weren't so messed up we might even be perfect for each other.

"Yeah I'm ready" I say grabbing his hand. We make our way to the party chatting about classes. He is really brilliant if he weren't so sweet and hopelessly loyal he would probably be a Ravenclaw. When we get to the party I spot the drinks and we make our way over on our way there we get cut off by Sirius.

"I see you've found another biker to replace me love I'm heartbroken" he says clearly trying to joke. I glance at Liam and notice he looks uncomfortable.

"You are making my date nervous will you just leave us alone" I say coldly. He looks hurt but lets us pass. I pull Liam closer. "I'm sorry about him really you know there was never even anything between us he's just joking around" I say.

"It's alright I know he's your best friend" he says.

"Well I don't know if it's appropriate to call him that anymore seeing as I only hang out with you and Reg" I say.

"I've noticed that but I didn't want to pry, you know I like you a lot and I don't want to scare you off" he jokes but I can tell there is a hint of the truth there.

"It'd be hard to scare me off after all I've seen" I say not responding to the part about him like me a lot, I don't want to give false hope when I know I'm in no place for something serious. We dance for a while and I get tired so I go to sit down by Reg leaving him to dance with some of his friends.

"Hi El having fun" Reg says.

"Yep the drinks and the company are great" I say glancing over at Liam to see him dancing wildly with one of his friends. I laugh a little.

"It's nice to see you so happy" I hear a voice that I would know anywhere say. I look up to see James.

"What you're talking to me now" I question.

"I could ask you the same, you know you took my seat" he says gesturing to his coat behind me.

"Sorry I just wanted to talk to my friend for a minute you do remember there was a time when I had to beg you to be nice to him do you remember that" I say.

"Yeah I do" he says and smiles at Reg. Seeing his smile takes me back to a year ago. I remember telling him how much I missed Sirius and him comforting me and here I was pushing both of them away.

"I better go back to Liam he looks like he's gonna break his leg if someone doesn't make him slow down" I say rushing to get up and push away thoughts of the past.
