Eight

"Do you need help getting ready" Lily says peaking her head in the door. Even though I can tell she feels like dying she has put on a brave face and has been trying her best to take care of everyone through their grief.

"Yeah can you help me put this on" I say holding up a pearl necklace. Today is the funeral.

"Sure" she says coming and putting them on me. I turn around and she gives me a hug. "You look great now come on it's almost time to go" she says. I have been staying at the Potters because I can't stand to go home. We walk downstairs and I look around and see everyone dressed up in their fanciest black clothes except James he's nowhere to be seen. He never is these days. I have people with me constantly and he just gets to isolate himself. Mr. Potter is already at the funeral home with my dad so Mrs. Potter is taking us kids.

"Okay is everyone ready" she says looking around "where's James" she says.

"He says he's not coming" Sirius says coming over to stand by me wrapping an arm around my waist.

"He sure as fuck is he's not missing this" I say and march upstairs. I bust into his room where he is sitting on his bed staring at a wall. "What the fuck are you doing" I say.

"Grieving" he says dryly.

"And you think I'm not you do realize he is my brother my twin and you are supposed to be his best friend one of my best friends you don't just get to sit here while the rest of us go honor him" I say.

"Was" he says, "he was your brother he was my best friend now he's a corpse in a box" he says and I gasp and leave the room. I walk back downstairs fighting back the urge to scream.

"Someone else deal with him" is all I say as a tear runs down the side of my face.

"What happened" Remus says as him and Sirius surround me but Regulus is already half way up the stairs.

REGULUS' POV

I walk into well more storm into James' room.

"What the fuck did you say to her" is all I say standing right inside the doorway.

"It doesn't matter" he says and I move closer.

"It matters to me you made her cry" I say and at this he looks up and I see something flash across his eyes but then they go blank.

"I just told her the truth he is dead" James says.

"What is the matter with you that girl has experienced more loss in her young life than most people do by their 30's trust me she knows he's gone she is sobbing about it constantly and you rubbing it in her face when she's just trying to keep you from making a decision you are gonna regret is not what a friend should do I wouldn't do that to my worst enemy" I shout towering over him while he sits on the bed repressing the urge to shake some sense into him.

"What am I gonna regret" he says "the only thing I regret is not being there for him and I can't fix that so what am I supposed to do" he says slowly getting louder and getting up and glaring at me.

"You are gonna regret it if you don't go, one day you won't be so angry at yourself and at the world that you will have the time to look back on this and wish you would have gone to honor him that you had been there for your other friends and his sister when they needed you" I say backing up "So come or don't but either way we're leaving in 10 minutes" I finish then leave the room.

I see Regulus come down the stairs and Mrs. Potter asks "did you get him to come".
