Backstory:
DEVO: Found as an infant by Hydra on 2/15/1994 in a field at a meteor impact site in the middle of no where USA. Given the name Devo short for devochka {девочка) the Russian word for Girl. Hydra discovered her DNA was not 100% Human, but mixed with an unknown source.
She was then quickly moved to a Hydra black site in Washington DC. She was experimented on for the first 9 years of her life. Injected with different versions of the super soldier serum in hopes of alterations being able to be extracted later on because of her unique DNA. Devo was also subjected to the mind wipe procedure the Winter Soldier went through. Because of these procedures, she remembers nothing, for now anyway.
One day a doctor, who overtime grew very fond of Devo, heard they were going to begin hormone treatment to breed her before beginning extractions that would eventually cause her death. The doctor faked Devo's death after the first extraction procedure and smuggled her out of the facility. Hydra discovered the plot when the doctor never returned to work. Launching an investigation, Hydra was able to locate the doctor and Devo hiding out in rural New York State on an abandoned farm. Hydra sent the Winter Soldier out to eliminate both the doctor and Devo. With instructions to eliminate the doctor and child after a bone marrow extraction the Winter Soldier departed.
The doctor and Devo were in hiding for 6 months before being caught by the Winter Soldier. Attempting to flee after trapping the soldier in an underground bunker the doctor fled with Devo. The doctor injected Devo with a concoction that slowed her heart beat down so it would not be detected. Knowing she would never be able to outrun Hydra and the Winter Soldier she sacrificed her life with the hope that Devo would finally be free. The doctor purposely drove the car into a tree causing Devo to be ejected from the front seat. Once the Winter Soldier was free from the bunker he raced over to the crash site. The doctor was in the drivers seat barely breathing, while Devo was lying in front of the car with a serious head wound. The Winter Soldier ended the doctors life and was unable to find a pulse on Devo. Extracting some bone marrow before departing the Winter Soldier reported mission completed before being put back into his Cryo Chamber.
Waking up 12 hours after being thrown through the wind shield Devo began walking and was eventually picked up by a police officer and taken to a hospital. The only thing found with her personal belongings was a note from the doctor: 2/15/1994 DEVOCHKA {девочка).
Unable to remember anything including her own name Jane Doe was placed in foster care. The social worker-Janet- was also her foster parent for a month before being placed in a group home. Janet allowed Jane to pick her own name. After being obsessed with the movie The Swan Princess Jane Doe asked to be called Odette. Odette Doe was then adopted by a kind couple who moved her out to New York City.
Odette was adopted by Ben and May Parker on her 10th birthday. Her cousin is Peter Parker (aka Spiderman, eventually. At the start of the story he is 11). During her childhood May allowed her to take part in ton of activities. She took up cheer, dance, choir, tennis, and self defense. By the age of 18 Odette mastered Kung Fu, Aikido, and Hapkido. She graduated high school early at the age of 16; she could never explain why she learned things so fast, or why certain things seemed familiar to her. Instead of going of to college immediately Odette decided to defer college, and chose to get a job and help May take care of Peter; that is the story she told her Mom anyway. The real reason she didn't want to go to college is because of what happened to her, she never processed the trauma from that fateful night. She would give anything to go back and never go, but we can't change the past can we? Odette works at a small but popular cafe in Queens with her best friends Cena and Suzie. Her boss is Dennis Jones, who also happens to be her boyfriend.
Odette was always able to tell what people were feeling and always knew when someone was lying to her. She always assumed she was just really intuitive. During the battle of New York she was helping May and Peter get to a safe place when she was struck by a Chitari weapon which vaulted her into an abandoned city bus. Shaking it off and blaming adrenaline Odette returned to helping pedestrians into the make shift shelter. Her walking away from the injury with no more than a scratch caught Captain America's attention as he helped her assist the police in moving people to a secure location. Once the battle was over and life went back to normal, Odette's life changed forever. Our story begins 3 months after the battle of New York. Steve has been keeping an eye on her since the incident, and sweet Odette has zero idea she has been under surveillance.
Odette has a lot of unresolved trauma, a lot of angst, and a lot of opinions. She is not scared to speak her mind. She will tell you exactly what she thinks of you, and isn't worried about hurting anyone's feelings. Buckle up Buttercup....it's time for one hell of a ride!
