Nora knocked on the blue door and waited on the other side. She was wearing a blue coat with white T shirt and grey pants. This was an off duty errand that she had to do. She was raging mad and she wanted to shot Olive's aunt on sight but she kept her cool.
The door clicked open and she stared at a woman who looked like she was out of bed, "Unataka ?" (What do you want?) She sneered.
"My name is Nora, I am a police officer and I want to talk to you about Sarah." Nora said with a little twitch from the corner of her mouth after seeing her eyes widened then she put on the same nonchalance.
A shirtless man came out smoking looking at Nora with blood shot eyes.
"Nani huyu?" He inquired. (Who is this?)
"Ni karao na anaulizia story za Sarah." She quickly explained. (She is a police officer and she is asking about Sarah.)
The man was now alert. He moved to put off the cigarette.
Something about the whole set up reminisced about her childhood home.
"Niaje afande, Sarah alipotea kutoka home na hatujamcheki wiki ka nne hivi." He rumbled as Nora nodded.
(Good day officer, Sarah disappeared from home and we haven't seen her in four weeks.)
"You never reported she is lost?" She asked with a frown.
"Tulimtafuta sana hii mtaa, tukadhani atarudi juu hii si mara yake ya kwanza kutoroka home." He explained. (We looked for her around this area but we didn't find her and because this wasn't her first time running away from home,we thought she would return.)
Nora almost scoffed and watched the two of them with a cold look. She almost lost her tempers but she held her harsh comments and chose to be professional.
"Well, Sarah is okay but I want to know to whom were you intending to sell her to?" Nora queried.
"Ati? Huyu mtoto ako wapi kwanza? Yaani anaweza ongea uongo?" ( what? Where is she and why is she lying). The man asked questions but underneath his rumbling Nora noticed that fear and panic that was mounting on both of them.
"Answer my question if you do not want to face a life time in a very dark cell in the middle of no where." Nora threatened.
"Afande, tunakushow ukweli hako katoto kamekuwa kaongo sana." The man replied.(officer we are telling you the truth, that child has become a phenomenon liar.)
"I am giving you one last chance. Tell me who was the buyer of Sarah." She warned.
They kept silent and Nora knew they would not talk. She needed to do this even though she was off duty.
The only way was to call Richard and bring them in. She took out her phone and dialled his number.
"Hey, there are two criminals I would want you to arrest. I am sending you the location." She hang up the phone.
"Aaah! Afande bana hatujui chochote." The lady almost screamed.( Officer we don't know anything.)
"Sit down and don't move." She thundered.
Some of the resident were now watching with interest.
Nora watched them with disgust as all the memories of her childhood flashed before her.
"Lora! Lora! Come on sis wake up!" Nora shook Lora's lifeless body.
"Mum!" Nora screamed.
"Lora wake up! Lora!..mum!" Nora held her sister and she frantically fumbled over a note.
"I am sorry sis, the pain is too much. I couldn't handle. I wanted to fight but dad took the will for me to. I love you and i will always do, yours Lora." The note read.
Nora jumped as fast as she could to call for help. Her mother slept on the couch knocked out.
After a few minutes of shouting to the neighbors for help they finally yielded and came to the house.
They carried Lora to one of their neighbor's car who had offered to help and drove to the hospital.
Nora prayed, she prayed that God would allow her sister live. She earnestly prayed just like sister Francesca had told her so many times.
They reached the hospital and all she remember doing is sitting down for hours waiting, praying and hoping that Lora would live.
Nora almost shot the man who was now looking at her.
"Gladys, why did you want to sell off your sister's child? Your niece for crying out loud?" Nora croaked.
Gladys kept quiet as she bent her head down.
"Do you know what would have happened to her? They would have killed her, removed her organs and sell them. I am disappointed in you. You allow this stupid man talk you into selling your niece all for what?" Nora went on.
"Look at you? Looks like he abuses you and you think that there is love? You sold out your blood relation over someone who doesn't value you? You knew she had a heart problem and still went on? You are the people who are ruining our country." Nora ranted as shook her hands.
Gladys looked up with two streaks of tears, "she was too much for me, and I didn't want her to live the life my sister and I went through. He told me he was arranging for her to go to a children's home and I agreed. I never thought it was about selling her." Gladys sobbed.
"Glado mbon..." The man turned towards her with clenched teeth and fist.
"I dare you touch her." Nora roared.
The man grunted as he sat down again.
"I see your English is perfect and that means we can come to an arrangement." Nora offered.
Gladys nodded.
In that moment Richard arrived with two other officers.
"Hey Nora, which one is our suspect?" Richard inquired.
"The man." She replied as he watched him being cuffed.
"What about her?" He asked.
"Nothing much just a clueless woman in this crazy world Plus she is Olive's aunt. " Nora stated.
Richard looked at the frail woman and saw some resemblance to Olive.
"Well, he should be able to tell us the rest of the other criminals. I have missed all the fun in the interrogation room." Richard smirked.
"Huh? Don't let James know I called you in. I don't want a lecture." She said as they walked slowly to her car.
"You owe me one." He said.
"I know." Nora groaned as she drove off. She needed to be somewhere.
