Christopher faced His bed kneeling down with a Bible in His hand praying. He felt lost but he knew it was not in vain he came here, God led him. He knew what being lost meant for he was once a lost man.
Lost in pain and anger. He was not the same man he was eight years ago.
"Thank you Lord, for today. I declare this is the day that you oh Lord have made and I will rejoice. Lord lead me and guide me, I need you Lord. In Jesus name. Amen" He said opening his eyes to adjust to the already bright sun rays. He was shocked to see Olive kneeling beside him. He stared at the little girl " good morning Bunnie?" He asked as he gave her a note book to pen down .
"Good morning Lion." she replied cheerfully.
"What do you want this morning?" He asked as he carried her to his kitchen. In past few days, she recovered well and they became friends. Olive was a lively and brilliant girl and that gave CJ a new thing to look forward too. He didn't push to know what happened but he sure was going to investigate.
He could not explain the new found joy in helping Olive. He wanted to keep her and adopt her.
Rules had to be adhered and he knew that God's will and plans will prevail above every system."Today, I want bread with peanut butter." Olive wrote down on the board in the kitchen .
CJ laughed "okay! With milk?" He asked
Olive nodded.
"Peanut buttered bread coming up." He said as he handed her a glass of milk and buttered two slices of bread. He watched her as she ate slowly. The past six days seemed like eternity and he could not imagine his life without her. He took his coffee, black and watched her.
His housekeeper, the one who was recommended by his uncle was kind to keep her company as he left to handle a few errands one being his new job at Bristol park hospital.
He was offered a place as the new chief surgeon. To him it was just a title because he only cared for his patients to get better. He did not fancy titles that is why he always said he was a doctor, simple.
He needed to figure out how to help Olive and without crashing his hopes of being her guardian.
Olive was like a gift after eight long horrible years. He was a mess eight years ago. One he thought would never be saved but Jesus had gone ahead and proved him wrong.
He watched as olive finished her glass of milk only for to accidentally drop it on the floor.
CJ looked only to meet a frantic Olive in tears wringing her hands in the air.
CJ rushed at her side only for her to move a step back.
"It is okay. I am not mad at you and it was just an accident." He explained slowly to the tear face Olive. She was breathing too fast and closing her eyes maybe waiting for the worst.
"It is okay Bunnie. Come" he opened his hands towards her. Her eyes wide and very scared. She stepped closely.
CJ hugged her tightly "I am not going to hurt you okay?" Olive was stiff but warmed up in time.
He let her go but held her tiny hand "I am going to clean this up." He said as he stood up and went to find a broom and dust pan.
A few minutes later the floor was swept and Olive seemed more relaxed. CJ was now more curious about her.
Why would she react like that? Did she go through abuse?
"Come let us go and get some ice cream." CJ offered with a wide smile.
Olive went to the kitchen board and wrote "I am sorry, I did not mean to break the glass. I get clumsy sometimes."
CJ's heart almost broke "it is okay Bunnie. I also get clumsy sometimes." He said it calmly.
Olive offered a smile as she walked towards CJ.
He lifted her up towards his awaiting car.*****
They spent their mid morning getting ice cream since Olive could not choose between vanilla ice cream or chocolate. she wanted every ice cream in the small cafè near CJ's home.
"Bunnie you have to make a decision." He nudged her in front of the glass screen as the lady behind it smiled.
She choose vanilla ice cream shyly looking at CJ for approval.
"Two vanilla ice cream." He spoke a bit warily.
This was not the first time to be in this place. The place had changed, their interior decor was colorful and vibrant giving a cool and fun air.
They had exchanged the wooden sits for palates with much thicker cushion. The tables were made of bamboo being shaped like medium sized drums with circular surfaces. The room illuminated a "take it easy" atmosphere.
It reminded him of Shona. She loved the place in a way CJ could not understand.
She would always argue how calm and serene the café was.
"Christopher, you serious need to stop brooding about how simple it looks and appreciate to be alive and able to dine here. Life is about simplicity." She lectured him on their second date. Shona had a way of looking at life. Her perspective was 'one day at a time ' . She was from a wealthy family that CJ could not connect her to being the daughter to the minster of foreign affairs.
"I am sorry. I only wanted to treat you today in a fancy restaurant. Please don't call me Christopher, I prefer CJ"
He tried to explain the woman he was wooing.
She was exceptionally beautiful with an average height, long slender fingers and two deep dimples engraved on her caramel face.
She had a goofy laughter which spoke of wisdom and wit.
CJ had never been smitten like this before and he could not explain how lucky he was.
"...it is two hundred and fifty shillings ,sir." The lady offered dragging him out his of his memories.
They took the ice and once Olive tasted hers she only smiled. CJ took it as an appreciation.
They drove home in silence but as he approached his driveway there stood another car.
A man whom he knew too well stood with his arms crossed. CJ was not prepared to see him anytime soon but the inevitable was here.
He parked and let Olive out of her seat. Holding her hand they walked approaching the man in front of his house.
"It is good to see you Christopher." Daniel greeted with out a smile.******
Well....soo long??I decided to use Cj as the character prefers it.
More of shona is coming up. Do you like her?
Daniel is back.. CJ's best friend is back...Don't forget to comment.....
