Christopher watched through his window as the last light of the day retired with a sigh, he guessed it was as tired as he was.
He turned to his subject of concern, the girl she found almost drowning. If it was not for the rising and falling of her chest one would think she was not alive.
He turned and walked towards her. She was recovering from whatever trauma she had gone through. It has been two days and she has been sleeping in and out of consciousness. All the while Christopher never left her side.He moved to sit on his coach waiting on patiently for her to wake up. He opened his iPad only to see a beautiful woman smiling at him. His lips twitched as he knew how she managed to creep his heart with her sarcasm and wit.
How would he forget her, Shona Manda. Christopher had never been so in love before he met her. He would cringe at the thought of trusting someone with his heart. Ironically people trusted him with their lives every time they came for treatment.
He shook his head remembering how they met.
It was one Friday night and his friends ensured that he went home drunk. It was his birthday after all. Christopher was wasted and accidentally bumped his head on the floor as he fell from his seat. His best friend Daniel came to his rescue which was too late for he was bleeding.
They had to take him to the nearest hospital.
" I swear if I get past this i will kill all of you." He slurped . His friends ignored him.
Barrak straighten him up in the car. The car started as Christopher started to feel some liquid dripping from his head. He tasted the metallic liquid " urrrrrgh!" He said in distaste.
" Not where I work, you fools." He said realizing that he was feeling light headed.
They ignored him and went on to the nearest hospital they could get.
The Emergency room was packed that night, they had to wait for a while.
Christopher's stomach disagreed with him and signaled his friends to bring a bin or a bucket. He emptied his stomach content. They burnt his throat and he cursed himself for not staying at home.
" I hate you!" He said raggedly. His friends shoulders moved with so much vigor only to realize they were laughing. He had no strength to slap them but he knew a punch would suffice.
He closed his and moved to sit properly only to open them and see people walking on the celling. He wondered if it was a horror movie. He chuckled as he realized he was the one who fell and now he was dizzy.
He tried to stand up only to step on someone's toe.
"Watch it!" A very angry feminine voice spoke.
He turned to see a beauty whose head was in flames. "Bloody alcohol!" he thought . He looked at her with a grin wondering how she looked angry and beautiful at the same time.
" Hey wonder woman." He greeted addressing her as his favourite super hero. He watched as she rolled her eyes.
"Was it him or did she resemble wonder woman?" He thought.
The woman turned to walk away only to turn around " I prefer Mekatilili wa Menza." She responded and stormed away.
Everything was a blur but Christopher knew he would not forget that face.He shook his head as the human figure in the bed started moving. He rushed to see her struggle to sit up. "No, just lie down." He said softly.
She complied as her eyes watched him take her temperature. She was so calm unlike the past two days. Christopher checked her with a frown hoping today she would improve.
He was happy that she did not scoot away from him.
"Today, turns out you are okay and recovering well." He spoke with a gentile smile. He moved to scribble something down a habit he could not stop.
" If you don't mind can you tell me your name." He inquired. The girl watched him then pointed to the book and pen.
Christopher recognized the gesture and immediately gave her the pen and notebook.
"My name is Oliver Twist." She wrote down. He looked at her to see if she was jesting only to find her smiling.
He laughed. A genuine laugh he had not had for years. His chest rumbled and he looked at the little girl.
"Then I am Lion King." He said in return. The girl giggled.
" Honestly I don't mind calling you that dear." He added.
The girl went on to write , " My real name is Olive Metta. I am eight years old and cute as a bunny." She gave him to read.
Christopher laughed and shook his head with delight.
" I do agree, you are cute as a bunny." He said with a wink. Christopher watched her as she put down the notebook. Every instinct in him wanted to protect this little girl with all he had.
He left the room bring her food.********
The girl is up and she seems like a breath of air in His life....
