"When I say I want a full report I want it done damn it! " Nora screamed. The week had not gone down well and all she felt was frustrations and wanted a breather so badly.
"Get it done. " she roared. The scared secretary scurried away almost tripping and falling. No one would want to deal with an angry boss.
Nora checked her phone only to see five missed calls from her mother and two from her friend Jade.
"What a day! " she exclaimed.
What was disturbing her were the heavy rains that had taken place yesterday. It gave her an unsettling feeling and being intuitive as she was, she knew that something bad really happened.
"What could that be? "She questioned no one. She zoned out thinking of calling her mother but she decided not to.
The last time she spoke with her mother was during her graduation from the police academy. She tried talking to her but she brushed off her attempts with cold looks that Jade did not approve.
Belinda and her never had a mother daughter relationship at any moment she found it difficult to call her mum at times.
The phone buzzed, Jade, a slow smile crept on Nora's face "thank God you picked! " she said dramatically.
"Yes and you should pay me a dollar for that. "Nora chuckled.
"Don't forget that today you coming over. " Jade shouted.
"Yes ma'am" she said in mockery
"Don't you think it's ironical to salute me? Jade said with a hint of laughter.
"Okay! Tell me Mrs what do you want me to bring? " she asked.
"Now that you have asked, large pizza and a burger. These cravings are killing me. "She said
"Fine your highness but that little rascal is going to pay me for doing this fine delivery.
"I will make sure receipts are kept and he or she is going to pay you. "Jade laughed at the thought.
"See you later hun take care of yourselves. Much love. "Nora said as she hanged up.
Her friend was the only close thing to family and Jade was expecting a baby that Nora looked forward to meet.
In her own opinion she did not think she fit to be anyone's mother because her career was too demanding and on other hand she was not sure if she wanted get married to any man.
She closed her eyes and thought of the so many times she tried dating and when she did she would end the relationship within days her excuse being she is not able to commit totally.
Jade on the other hand ensured she went on dates which according to her was essential in her finding a man by putting herself out there.
She hated those blind dates but she could not hurt her best friends feelings.
She would be overly rude to some or entirely be boring so as to ensure she was not called back for a second date.
There were days she admired her best friend's marriage. She was married to Rick, her childhood friend and even though they grew up in different continents they kept in touch until they were teenagers and Jade had a breakdown after hearing that Rick had another lady friend that he had kept a secret.
Jade cried the entire night confessing to her mother for being in love with Rick.
Her parents helped her understand that love was such a heavy word to say especially at that age. Jade could hear none of it and she told her parents to allow her return to America before their vacation was over.
They eventually left and for the first time in their friendship with Rick, Jade refused to write to him not even a single mail for quite a long time.
Rick tried to contact her to no avail. He did not give up on her and wrote as many letters as he could telling Jade how much he loved her. On her visit to Kenya when she was twenty, he showed up at their doorstep with a stack of letters for that whole time they didn't speak.
Jade was more than happy when Rick confessed to love her and he was very sorry that there was a misunderstanding between them. It was hard at first because Jade was seeing someone else but they didn't give up on each other.
Their parents allowed them to date and on their second date Jade dragged a reluctant Nora to join them.
Nora scoffed at their love story. It seemed something like a cheesy romantic movie would be.
She stood from her desk she needed to visit someone who her a favour before heading at Jade's.******
