CHAPTER 20

Chengxin didn't get a chance to meet Pandora or Haoxiang after the altercation since both of them did not come out of the rooms. Perhaps they were feeling ashamed, or they just didn't want to be asked questions about what happened and why they broke up.

Chengxin was kind of happy they didn't meet again, because he wouldn't know what to say to them. He still hadn't decided what to do about the issue, and it made him feel indecisive. He knew he loved Pandora, but somehow he felt that Haoxiang liked her first. But maybe it wasn't about who liked her first but who loved her more.

Even after supper, Chengxin couldn't sleep. He stayed in the dining room and sat there just staring at the wall in thought. Everyone had went to bed and now he was all alone in the dining room. It was almost midnight, and there he was still sitting there like he was hours ago.

A moment later, he heard footsteps coming down the stairs. He knew Pandora would come to have supper since she didn't have any, and he felt quite happy that she was coming down. He didn't even know why, since he didn't know what he was going to tell her.

But it wasn't Pandora who showed up later in the dining room to get to the kitchen. Instead, it was Haoxiang. He had his earphones on and his cellphone in his sweatpants pockets. Even though he had seen Chengxin, he had deliberately ignored him and went straight into the kitchen.

Thankfully, Chengxin didn't want to speak with him either. He wondered who actually had to do the talking first though, whether him or Haoxiang. They had quite a disagreement that day, so it was hard for either of them to start the conversation.

Haoxiang prepared his food and ate in the kitchen. Then he walked past Chengxin and went up the stairs to his room again. He was hoping this would stop soon enough just like the director had advised them.

Chengxin continued to sit there, only accompanied by the sound of the ticking of a clock nearby. He grabbed his cellphone and checked the time: 00:45. He really needed to sleep lest he ended up oversleeping again.

But he realized he really wanted to talk to Pandora. Was it even true? Maybe Pandora had made it up just to stop people's questions, he had to ask her in more detail. It didn't make much sense to him anyway, Haoxiang was never the type to really be into girls. And if he had an ex, Junlin would have knew. They were the best of friends.

He expected Pandora to be overthinking that day, so he knew where she would be. Probably, on the rooftop like she was last time. He grabbed a blanket from the living room couch just in case she wasn't warm again, then he rushed up the stairs.

Chengxin was met by disappointment when he found that the rooftop was empty. He walked over to the edge just to be sure she wasn't indeed there. When he confirmed it to himself, he went back into the house. He decided he would have to wait until tomorrow.

But he didn't want to wait. Instead, he stopped in his tracks as he went down the stairs to the second floor. He would just have to knock on her room door and tell her he wanted to talk to her. He knew she wouldn't be happy with him knocking at her door at this time, but he was desperate.

He walked down the stairs and stood in front of Pandora's door. He placed a knuckle on the white wood and knocked three times, then waited patiently. There was no response. He knocked three more times, and once again got no response. He waited for at least a minute, then decided to just walk inside the room. That was highly inappropriate, but that was all he could think of at that moment.

Nervously, Chengxin twisted the door handle and poked his head inside. Unexpectedly, there was no one on in there as well. If she wasn't in her room, where was she? He walked back inside the room and looked around, then walked out of it and shut it. Had Pandora perhaps left the building again and nobody knew?
