(Your POV)

The next day, I walked around town with my girlfriends. They insisted on going to the DX because of a cute guy that works there. I've never been there before, but I guess it could be fun.

We walked in and all their tempers changed immediately. They folded their skirts higher, twirled their hair, and giggled constantly. I rolled my eyes and browsed for decent candy.

After picking out pixy stix, I joined my friends at the till, where they were flirting with the cashier.

It was Sodapop. He noticed me and gave me the "get me out of this situation" look. I softly chuckled and turned to my friends, "Hey, let's go now. There's plenty eye candy on the streets, we can come back later."

The girls glared at me for a second, chewing their gum hard. They gave Soda a quick smile and giggled out the door.

I placed my pixy stix on the counter and reached in my pocket for some coins. Before I could pay, Soda interrupted, "It's on the house."

"Thanks, Soda, but I've got enough-"

"I insist," He grinned his famous grin and put his own coins in the till. I thanked him again, grabbed my candies, and exited the DX. Before I could get far, Soda called after me. I turned around as he was jogging up to me.

I started talking before he could, "I'm sorry about my..." I paused and air quoted, "Friends."

"No worries," He replied. Gosh, his voice is so soothing.

I continued, "I'm a greaser, they're socs. I hate them, so I don't why I still hang out with them. They only let me tag-along because I do their homework for them."

He smirked, "Well, I happen to have a solution for you." He took the pen that was hanging from his DX shirt pocket and held my hand as he wrote his number on it. I then took the pen and wrote my number on his hand too.

"Give me a call anytime. You can hang out with me instead of your so-called 'friends'," He assured.

"Thanks, Soda," I appeased and waved goodbye.

(Narrator's POV)

Later that night, you waited by the phone. As much as you wanted to call him immediately, you knew he should be the one to call you first.

Finally, after an hour, the phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Hey, is this y/n?"

"Yes. Soda?"

"Yup! How are you? Sorry for not calling earlier, I just got off my shift."

You two spoke on the phone for hours. It was perfect. Sodapop made you laugh and was the most understanding person you've ever met. Around two in the morning, you both fell asleep while still on the call.

----------

The next day, you went to the DX to see Sodapop again.

"Hey, sweets!" He greeted as you walked in.

Throughout the day, you sat on the counter eating a few chocolate bars and drinking some cokes while Sodapop worked. Steve came in the afternoon to work; he only works part time because of school. He even showed you a few things about cars!

"Hey y/n," Soda began, "Would you like to go to the spring festival tomorrow with me?"

"I'd love to," You beamed. You broke off a piece of the chocolate bar.

"Open," You said, feeding him the chocolate. He wrapped his arms around your waist while you were sitting on the countertop.
