It seemed to be hours since Nassa had left with the doctor. Kaithenne had never seen a more emotionless person before. The legends weren't kidding when they were devoid of all of it. Heliosray had even gone to sleep after a while. Kaithenne turned her head to Nori.
"What do you think will happen to us?" She asked the nymph.
"Hopefully nothing bad," Nori responded optimistically, "But that's not likely, considering we are strapped down to a bed table thing- what is it?"
"I do not know," Saturn replied, yawning. Kaithenne looked at it.
"Would Heliosray know?" She asked. "He seems like he's been in a lab or hospital before." She looked at the boy. His chest barely rose. Kaithenne hoped he wasn't dead. "I mean, a normal person's chest would rise more than his is. It's almost like his breathing is constricted." Kaithenne looked at the others. "Nori, you have magic, right? Can you break us out?" The fae asked her newfound friend.
"I don't see any water around here, do you? Besides, water magic wouldn't do us any good anyway," Nori says.
"Well," Saturn says, "It could always get the straps wet and maybe let us slip out."
"The straps are too tight for that," Nori says. Kaithenne sighed.
"We need to do something. Who knows which one of us is next?" She said that part a little loudly. Heliosray adjusted himself a bit. Kaithenne made a mental note to be quieter.
Nori shrugged. Saturn sighed, "I don't know. All I know is that Nassa was more likely to be tested."
"Why would they want to test a wendigo, anyway?" Kaithenne asked.
"Not wendigo, wendigo hybrid, they are very rare," Saturn sighed again, "Why did the popcorn cross the road?" He asks. Kaithenne smiled. A fellow jokester? She was beginning to like Saturn.
"I dunno why?" She asked, sounding more lively.
"To get to the butter side," He grins.
"That was corny," Nori adds. Kaithenne giggled.
"Why'd the skeleton not cross the other side?" She asked, with a smile. She could hear Heliosray grumbling from all the commotion and trying to sleep.
"Because he didn't have the guts!" Nori giggled.
"Yes, you have learned the way of the joke," Saturn grins evilly. Kaithenne giggled louder.
"Guys, shut up…." Heliosray mumbled in a…. Female voice? Kaithenne was surprised and confused. She thought the Cyberican was male.
"Ya sound a bit feminine," Saturn comments, "That's a bit interesting- no offense!" Helo's eyes snapped open and he looked at Saturn - or was he a she now? Kaithenne wasn't really all that sure.
"What? No. You must be ear hallucinating. All of you." Heliosray continued in the female tone. Kaithenne smiled.
"Something you'd like to share?" She asked gently. Heliosray glared at her.
"No." The strange cyberican said as they got back to sleep.
"Actually it's called an auditory hallucination," Saturn points out.
Heliosray didn't answer them this time. Kaithenne suddenly had a thought. She smiled. The fae knew what was up.
"Guys, I think Heliosray is transgender." She told her friends.
"Even if he is Kaithenne, that's probably something he should choose to share," Saturn pointed out, "Even if it was easy for you to believe, it's private information that should be respected." Kaithenne nodded. She now got why Heliosray didn't want to discuss it. She sighed as another doctor entered.
It was time to find out who was next.
