We arrived at Nick's house and they came out straight away. My mum's car had three sections, the front, the middle and the back (it was a seven seater car). My parents were in the front, Nick's were in the middle and Nick and I sat in the back. I didn't notice what Nick was wearing until he got in the car. He wore black skinny jeans (as per usual) and a maroon, short sleeved, collared top with little drawings of white anchors on it,
"How do you always look stunning?" Nick asked me. I just smiled and giggled. My hand was resting in the middle of Nick and I. He put his hand on mine and didn't let go the whole way. It was adorable. On the way to the city Nick and I were listening to music on my phone because we didn't want to listen to the parent's boring conversation. I heard a familiar beat and realised that Problem by Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea came on. Nick started lip syncing and dancing, thinking he looked fabulous. I was in a fit of laughter. He looked like a seal with a medical problem. When the song finished Nick took a bow and I started clapping,
"You're such a diva," I said to Nick laughing. Little things like this made me love him even more. When we got into the city we started to walk around and have a look at different shops. Both Nick's and my mum were shopaholics so it was something that we unfortunately couldn't avoid. We were in the shops for what felt like hours,
"What's the time?" Mum asked, obviously trying to see when we had to leave the shops,
"6:30," Nick responded. This sent both of our mums into a panic as they had dinner reservations for seven. We left the shops and started to rush to a seafood restaurant named Doyle's. The food there was always divine. All of us arrived there in plenty of time and we made our way to the table we were going to eat at. Nick pulled out a chair and gestured for me to sit down. He was such a gentleman. After having some delicious seafood, we thought that we would just walk around the harbour. Nick took ahold of my hand and we walked, just talking about nothing really. Time flew by and before we knew it the fireworks were about to be on. We found a spot and started to wait to see all of the beautiful colours explode in the sky. The countdown started...10....9...8....the excitement was growing...7.....6....5....Nick turned my head so we were facing each other....4...3...2....1....Happy New Year! Nick kissed me as we heard everyone screaming around us. The booming of the fireworks filled my ears. We started to watch the fireworks. They were so magical. Once they were finished, we just stood there, admiring the amazing view that we had just witnessed.
After chatting and walking around for a bit longer, we decided to go home. There was a lot of traffic but that didn't bother me because it meant that I could see Nick lip sync and dance for a longer time. I rested my head on his shoulder and before I knew it I was fast asleep. When I woke up I was at home and in bed. I checked my phone for the time. It was 8am and there was also a message from Nick :
N - Hi Grace, thanks for the night last night. I loved spending time with u. U looked so cute when u were sleeping on the way home. Love u heaps and can't wait to see u again x❤️
I smiled. Waking up to these texts made my day.Time went by quickly, so did my youth. Three years had passed. Nick and I were now 18 and doing our HSC at school. It was stressful and even tested our relationship. We kept on having big arguments about minute things that weren't worth arguing about. It was hard. I had some nights where I would just cry myself to sleep. Everything was just too much. I decided to try to ignore Nick the week when I was doing my exams because I needed to concentrate. I wasn't going to ruin my future by worrying about my love life. It just wasn't worth it.
