colin was thankful this time around to stay at the tower while the avengers went and destroyed the remaining known hydra bases.
during the time alone, he was able to use his father's lab to do more research on himself and his powers. so far, he's figured the majority of it out with the help of his mother's letter addressed to him from when she passed.
he was similar to that of a phoenix; can't die and reviving in a pile of ashes are the only attributes that colin is experiencing. according to the letter, he would be like his mother who was able to manipulate fire and have it come out of her hands! seeing the photos of his mother using her gift was something that had made him feel complete.
of course, because of his pact with natasha, who he now calls mom, she knew about his research. she would occasionally assist the boy when she could.
just because he was bored, he made an ai. he didn't plan on making a suit or going out and saving the world, not just yet. he was too young, and with his life already so dangerous, he didn't want to give his father a heart attack. hence, he never spoke of these powers to tony.
"the avengers have returned, sir." j.a.r.v.i.s spoke through the speakers, giving colin enough time to pack up and run back to his room.
sure enough, not long after sitting on his bed, catching his breath, a knock came from his door.
"hey, kid." tony spoke, opening the door after colin had said 'come in!'. he joined his son, sitting next to him. "there's gonna be a little party downstairs for us to celebrate if you want to join. everyone is going to be there, i know you wanted to come out to them before your surgery next month."
colin nodded his head and agreed to go make an appearance. he planned to tell the rest of the avengers that he was transgender-- considering some knew already, others were suspicious, or they didn't know at all. he wanted to be able to tell them before his surgery and before they start to question things.
he didn't want to lie to anyone if they were to ask him about him being on bed rest after coming home from the hospital. not only that, but this was something he didn't want to hide.
being transgender is who he is, and he is proud of who he is now. he doesn't need anyone's permission or acceptance, but he did need his family to know.
as the party began, colin kept a distance from everyone deciding it would be best for him. it would give the boy the time needed to gather his thoughts and courage.
