hearing the vehicle pull up, colin stood up from the stairs leading into the parker's apartment building. once happy got out of the car, colin met him by the trunk. when happy took out peter's case, colin threw his bag in.

colin waited by peter's door for when he finished his conversation with his dad. colin's foot bounced on the street as anxieties continued to plague his mind. not soon enough, peter exited the car and picked up his case.

out of pettiness, colin shoved his shoulder against peter's as he got into the car and slammed the door shut. he stared ahead, not bothering to talk to peter or his father.

after the long and awkward car ride, they made it to the hospital wing of the avenger facility. vision and tony all by the window as rhodey went for his mri. whispering to another.

the relief that came from colin knowing that his uncle was alive took a huge weight off his shoulders. that and having natasha nearby helped as they were outside the room while natasha comforted the young stark.

the two stood in the doorway, colin staring at the window, his eyes void despite the dried tear marks on his face. tony looked over at them before they moved to a private area.

"the doctors say he shattered l4 through s1. extreme laceration to the spinal cord. probably looking at some form of paralysis." tony explained to the two, distraught that this happened as well.

"i warned you people." colin muttered under his breath as he went ignored by his pseudo-mom and his father.

"steve's not gonna stop." natasha began to say before turning her attention towards tony. "if you don't either, rhodey's gonna be the best-case scenario."

annoyed, tony replied to her, "you let them go, nat."

"we played this wrong."

"we?" tony half-heartedly chuckled, the two arguing without even realizing that colin spaced out. it was the only way colin could ignore what was happening right next to him. "boy, it must be hard to shake the whole double agent thing, huh? it sticks in the dna."

snapping back into reality, colin stared at his father in disbelief. shaking his head he went to go leave the two, sick and tired of it all.

"where are you going?" tony asked his son who paused but didn't look back at him.

"anywhere away from all of you and all of this. i'm sick and tired of you fighting and tearing each other down whether it's physical or just words. you don't even realize the effects this whole bullshit has on those around you. i'm done." colin left the area, stopping by rhodey to mutter his goodbye, mainly to himself before walking to his room.

usually in moments like this, colin would do something jurassic to get away. but, it wouldn't do him any good right now.

instead, he was going to try to cope healthier. pulling out the box from underneath his bed, yeah not the best hiding spot, colin got to work. if his family wanted to fight with each other and not pay attention to him, it gave the perfect opportunity for him to finish his suit and research.

so focused on his project he hadn't heard natasha enter.

"hey, kid. want to talk?" colin looked up at natasha and shook his head.

"what's the point? dad is off and going after steve and barnes while everyone else i love is in the raft. hell, even my crush lied to me. if you aren't going to the raft, you'll be on the run and i'm down another parental figure. if dara gets out she'll be on the run too. face it, mom, i'm destined to be alone. nobody stays. leave it at that... please." colin truthfully spoke, as he went back to the final calculations needed for his suit.

"colin, you can't keep going like this. with your thoughts like that, it isn't healthy." natasha said to colin, voice full of concern. "have you been seeing your therapist? if you don't want to talk with us, at least talk to her. you've been her client for so many years."

"i still see her. and don't get me wrong, i love her, but i don't know. sometimes i rather just have my family than a therapy session."

that's where their conversation ended. they wouldn't have another one for a long time, not until the world was about to end.

———

it was a few hours later when f.r.i.d.a.y contacted colin. and that once weight he shed earlier had come back in full force. guilt taking over colin's body.

"happy!" colin screamed as he ran down the hall. "happy! please!"

happy ran into colin, confused by the screams. all it took was one look at his face to know something had gone wrong.

"it's dad, he's down. he's in a siberian facility. friday sent me the coordinates. please make sure he's alive. bring him home alive. friday was destroyed before i could get any vital readings." happy reassured the boy, telling him to warn the med wing when he returns. colin did just that, terrified for his father's life. "he can't die. not when the last conversation we had was an argument. please." colin muttered, the world finally crumbling.
