Shadows Pov
I woke up finding more sun than my black-out curtains would ever let into my room. And when I looked around I realized that I wasn't in my room. I was instead laying on the side of a hill in some grass and next to me was a still sleeping pink hedgehog.
My eyes linger for longer than they should as I watch her sleeping form. She is laying on her back but her head is turned toward me. Her pink quills had become ruffled through the night and her bangs fall just above her eyes, in a way she wouldn't allow if she was awake.
I find myself smiling. She looks even cuter than usual. And I was being graced with a sight I wouldn't mind seeing every morning if I could.
Why the hell do I think stuff like this so much?
I shake my head trying to clear my mind of whatever I was just thinking. I try to move the rest of my body to stretch but something is holding my right hand down.
She's holding my hand. I remember her grabbing it last night as we talked but I didn't know that we fell asleep like this.
I probably seemed pathetic...
Something came over me last night. It felt like I could tell Rose anything, so I did. And I ended up saying more than I'd ever told anyone else.
"Shit." I cursed myself.
I promised someone a long time ago that I would stop thinking about my existence like that and I had promised myself that I wouldn't talk about it. But I guess some things never change no matter how much time you use repressing them.
I'm dragged from my thoughts at the sound of movement next to me.
Amy stirs with a small groan before opening her big green emerald eyes to meet mine.
She looks a bit confused so I spoke first.
"Good morning sleepyhead." I tease with a small smile. But oh god did I cringe at my use of the word 'sleepyhead'.
She grins at me with still-tired eyes, "Good morning." She lets out a small yawn before taking her hand away to rub at her eyes. I miss the warmth of it immediately.
"I can't believe we fell asleep out here." I say trying to distract myself from having such strange thoughts.
"Me either. I guess we were tired."
I begin to sit up and she follows suit. The sun is visible but still rising. It emits a yellowish-orange hue that I know Rose would describe as beautiful.
"We missed the sunset this time but at least we caught the sunrise." I said.
She let out a gentle sigh.
"It's pretty."
I turn to look at her. Her quills are still a bit of a mess but in a cute way. Her tired eyes are beginning to show a bit more life and she sits calmly taking in her environment with that appreciative smile she often wears.
Amy, she's pretty. I just hope that after all she's been through she can see that in herself as well.
"So Shadow what are your plans for the day?" She asks me. Her normally cheery voice replaced the calmer one she had a few moments ago.
"Well it's Sunday, and I don't have work. So I'm not really sure. You?"
She thinks for a moment and then she facepalms.
"I swear my memory gets worse every day."
I chuckle at her dramatics. Whatever she forgot probably isn't that important, but Rose prides herself on doing everything that she agrees to even if she has to go through strenuous lengths to get it done.
"What did you forget, Rose?"
"Rouge invited us to dinner." She sighs.
"Us? Why not just you?" The confusion is very apparent on my face. Rose and Rouge are like best friends it wouldn't be that strange for them to go to dinner together. Especially without me. This has a Rouge scheme written all over it.
"Well she's bringing Knuckles and..." she trails off.
This is most definitely a Rouge scheme.
"I'll go."
Rose's face automatically lights up. I knew that she wanted me to go but was probably scared to ask because we had spent all of yesterday together.
"Thank you, Shadow."
"What are friends for?" I smiled at her but her own faltered for some reason.
"Yeah..."
...
Later that evening I was pulling up to Roses's house for the second time. I dropped her off after we left the park and went back to my own place to rest up for a bit and then I got ready for dinner.
Now I'm here.
I walk up to the front door and knock. It opens a few seconds later. She's wearing a purple form-fitting dress that falls right above her knees and some purple flats that match the dress perfectly.
"You look great," I say without hesitation.
"Thank you." She chirps. She looks up at me and I'm sure I see a bit of red tint her checks, but I ignore it.
"You look very handsome Shadow." Well if she was blushing it's my turn now.
I'm wearing black dress pants with a white button-up and a maroon blazer.
"T-thank you." I stammer.
We make our way to the car and take a thirty-minute drive to the restaurant. Knuckles and Rouge are already there. The waitress brings us over to their table and Rouge and Amy immediately go into a squealing fit.
"Rouge!!!!"
"Amy!!!"
Knuckles and I just glance at one another and shake our heads with small smiles.
"They're crazy." He says.
"That's an understatement." I reply.
He lets out a laugh.
"Shadow the jokester, huh?"
"If only I was joking." I smirk daringly, knowing that both women are now listening to our conversation.
"You wanna see crazy?" Rouge asks putting her hand on Knuckles shoulder with a firm grip.
"Cause we can show you." Amy grabs onto my shoulder and I can feel the evil aura emitting from both of them.
Psychos I tell you.
Knuckles sat frozen and sweating while trying to find the right thing to say. But me being a little too used to this sort of thing says, "Aren't you ladies hungry?" This comment is more reserved for Amy as we all know she loves food.
"Yes! How'd you know?" She immediately returns to her naturally bubbly self.
"Just a hunch." I reply. "Rouge, you wouldn't want to cause any harm to such a nice place though, would you?"
Rouge looks around at the very well-decorated restaurant and gives in.
"You're right. Your smart mouth isn't worth it." She scoffs. She's much more entitled than Rose but I know how to deal with both equally well.
The look on Knuckles' face can only be described as admiration. But we both silently agree to let the situation go. The night moves forward and we continue to talk and laugh about god knows what. I just wish everything had stayed that way.
