Out of the Slump 1

Amys Pov

Shadow had stayed with me in the hospital for about five hours before he left. I have to admit that it was pretty sweet of him. I needed comfort more than I had known. It felt great to let all of those bottled-up emotions out to someone who would listen. I just never would have imagined it'd be Shadow.

Before he left Rouge came and said that she'd be spending the night with me. Her face was twisted with worry and I felt horrible knowing that I was the one who made her look like that. Even so, she ran over to me and gave me the tightest hug. I definitely couldn't breathe for a second or two.

Now it's just me and Rouge in the room.

I almost forgot what having girls' nights was like. Lately, she's been really busy. She got a new job and is saving up to buy a car. I'm surprised she even made it here tonight. I know she must be exhausted.

"I missed you so much, Amy." She took the chair that Shadow had been sitting on earlier and brought it closer to the bed. A small smile plays on her face as she takes my hand and cups it between her own.

"I missed you too, Rouge. " I reply honestly.

"It feels like I haven't seen you in forever." 

She tells me all about her new editing job, and how she's really close to having enough to buy a car. I can see her excitement as she speaks. I'm really proud of her too. Not only has she gotten a job that she loves but she's accomplishing so much more.

"Next, I think I'll buy an apartment with Knuckles." At first, she looks serious. My eyes go wide.

"Am I missing something?" I ask, still visibly in shock. She stares back at me, straight-faced and it only adds to my confusion. But a few moments later she busts out laughing.

"Girl, I'm just joking." She cracks up, all the while I'm still piecing what she said together. When I do catch up I laugh along with her.

"You got me." I giggle, "But really what's going on with you and Knuckles? I heard that he's still in town. Has anything happened with you two?" I raise my brow inquisitively.

"Actually," She holds her pointer finger to her chin and acts as if she thinking about telling me. "Nevermind." Her face now gets red and she throws her hands up to cover it.

I barely ever see Rouge flustered so it must be big.

"Come on tell me!" I push forward in bed, excitement brewing.

"Ok, ok, but you have to promise not to scream when I tell you."

"Scouts honor." I hold my right hand up.

"So, last week Knuckles called. He chatted me up, asked how I was doing, and then he asked me out on a date." She gets this nervous look. I have to hold in my scream. I quickly shove my hands to my mouth before I do.

"Oh my god! Did you say yes?" I lean forward more, like a small child at storytime.

"Girl, Of course, I did." 'Duh' is written all over her face, but not in a mean way.

"Details now!"

"He took me to this restaurant by the water.  It was super fancy and expensive. I wonder how he could afford it."

"And," I interrupt before she gets off track.

"Oh yeah, and he told me that he had been planning the night out for a while. That even before he left he had feelings for me and knew that he had to make a move now that he's back." A tender smile creeps its way onto her face as she speaks.

"How sweet."

"After dinner, he took me by the water and we sat there for hours. By the end of it, he asked if I would like to go on another date, and I of course said yes. I had a really great time." Her eyes are full of affection. A look she'd always get when she would speak about a guy she was interested in. But this was more intense.
