Shadows Pov
I'm bussing a table in the farthest corner of the cafe. The place is packed today. People are coming in left and right and I know if I don't keep up a good pace my boss is going to be on my back instantly. I've already seen about 3 other waiters get chewed out and I'm not too keen on being one of them. My boss and I already have...a rocky relationship.
There had been more than one occasion where he tried to reprimand me about the stupidest things and I was not having it. It's a wonder how I still have this job. I think a part of him always realizes that I'm right at the end of all our conflicts. Sometimes I think he just wants to find some fault in my work ethic so he comes up with something foolish but it never really goes well. As far as he's concerned I'm the best server he's got.
Now, imagine my shock when I'm just minding my business, doing my job, counting the seconds that I can get off, and head home to take the best nap of my life when I see a pretty little pink hedgehog troat her way into my workplace. I noticed her the second she walked in, though she hadn't noticed me yet. She was looking around like this was her first time coming here and I was looking at her like 'what the hell are you doing here?'
My eyes instantly snap to my purple co-worker who's always watching the door for any woman that he thinks he can dig his claws in, and of course, he's already staring her down like she's his next prey.
Oh no, not this one buddy.
I watch it as one of my female co-workers guides her to a table that just happens to be in my area. She sees me now. Her jade eyes widen in realization and I don't know if I should laugh at her expression or facepalm. It seems like all my female friends just love to make my life harder.
To be fair, Toni wasn't the only one staring Amy down. A bunch of sleaze bags had their eye on her but of course the only one of these sleaze bags that had the balls to come up and say anything just had to be the purple douche. At this point, I'm just waiting to see how he decides to approach her, though I don't plan on letting him get any closer than he already is. His spot across the cafe is a great distance, getting a little farther like maybe out of the cafe wouldn't be that bad either.
"Shadow?" Amy finally says confusion written all over her face. That confusion quickly changes to excitement as she says, "I didn't know you worked here!"
My female co-worker(I think her name started with an 'M' or something) eyes me, with her brow raised. It's a look I've seen one too many times on people like Rouge's faces whenever they see Amy and I together. Of course, no one's accusing gaze bothers me as much as Rouges but this is just ridiculous, SHE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW US!!!
No matter my current dilemma there's no way I could resist being happy at seeing this girl even if I tried. A smile formed on my lips and I find myself walking toward her.
"Hey Rose, it's good to see you."
"It's good to see you too, we haven't been able to talk much since the morning after the party. We've both been so busy." She smiles, happily as she speaks. As usual, her excitement seems to brighten up the whole room and I forget that I'm at work for a moment.
It's been a little over a week since the party and though we do text and check in on each other I haven't had a chance to see her since then. I've been busy with my job and she said that she was trying to catch up with work at her flower shop due to her three-day break when she was sick. I didn't even realize how used to being around her I'd gotten until I was unable to see her, but of course, I understand that we are two adults with separate lives that need to be lived.
"I know, so what brings you here?" I ask her, still not remembering that there are dozens of eyes on us.
"Well, I was referred here by Rouge," She looks around the place before her eyes fall back on me, "She never said that you worked here."
