Shadows Pov

I've now been sitting with Amy for over 4 hours in the room. It was pretty awkward for a while. It didn't look like she was expecting me at all. But, an hour or two later we were talking normally.

We talked about cars, animals, people. I even spent some time talking about myself. Me, Shadow the Hedgehog, talking about himself. I do have to admit that Amy is a good listener. She's expressive but not judgemental. She makes you feel like you can open up.

Even though she was getting more comfortable and laughing a bit I could still tell that something was bothering her. I didn't want to push her to say anything but her vibe was off, and it was concerning.

When I felt the time was right I asked her if she wanted to talk about it. I wasn't expecting her too. She hasn't even talked to Rouge much lately. It took her a few but she opened up.

Like I said before when she was eight her parents were killed in an attack on Little Planet by Robotnick. She says that was the day her feelings for Faker began to develop. Before Sonic she was just a little girl, with no sense of the real world. She changed after him. She got stronger, learned the importance of protecting the things she loves even if all seems lost. Just from her telling me this little bit about herself I could tell that Amy had a lot more to her than meets the eye.

She took me through her whole life. She explained how every day she could feel herself fall a little harder for Faker.

"I know what people think, but it wasn't just some obsession." She said.

Her eyes lit up a bit whenever she remembered their good moments. They would grow a little dull when she remembered their arguments.

Her parents were her biggest reinforces though. They brought a glow to her eyes as well. She said that since she was young she always dreamed of finding a love similar to what they had. She said you could feel and see the love so clear when you'd look at them. They were the definition of a storybook couple.

Amy's mother spoke to her from she was young about love, and the biggest thing she can remember was this.

"Love is the connection between two people that can never be broken. No matter the distance or the cost. When you meet your prince Amy you will know. Everything will just feel so much better. Your world won't be the same. You will truly be a princess in his eyes and one day a queen."

Amy's parents had a tragic ending but they found one another before it.

"Maybe that's why they died together," She says," My parents always did love me, but I can't imagine a world where one has to live without the other."

Her mother's words are with her to this day she says.

"When I fell for Sonic, I thought that meant that one day he could possibly return my feelings. I believed in my mother's words because it worked so well for her and my father. But, as I got older I realized, that she never said love had to be reciprocated. She said when two people connect, and clearly there was never a connection between Sonic and I." I could hear the ache in her voice as she spoke. It's as if she has to force her words out.

Now and then she would stop. Cutting off to think about her words or just to take a breather. I just tell her to take her time and wait patiently for her to continue.

She looked so broken. As if she lost a huge part of herself somewhere. Her eyes had bags under them and even though she would do it all the time her smiles didn't meet her eyes at all.

I may have thought her annoying in the past, but I know that this is not the same Amy. There's an emptiness somewhere in her now. And it's taken all she has to try and keep a brave face.
