— 13 —"We'll get going then," Heeseung stated, grabbing onto his backpack and exiting Jay's front door. It wasn't long until the other five exited with him, saying their goodbyes to each other. They ended up spending most of the time finishing up homework. Well, they may have had multiple breaks to talk with Jake, whether it was questions about him or homework. They found Jake was very academically intelligent and could help out with most of their questions.
"Were you able to finish Mrs. Lee's homework?" Sunghoon and Jake also had the same science class and Sunghoon was curious if he was able to do anything despite his friends disturbing him every minute. "Surprisingly yes, it's actually pretty easy," Jake smiled. Sunghoon's expression dropped, he was working on the same assignment the whole three hours they were there yet he wasn't even halfway done yet. Jake could read his expression easily. "I could help you if you'd like? I would be more than happy to!" The younger's expression brightened, nodding.
"Yes, I would really appreciate it," He paused for a little before turning his head to look at the latter. "Uh hey, Jake would you mind hanging out for just a little bit longer? I want to bring you somewhere!" The older looked down at the time on his phone before nodding in agreement. "Sure, I would love to... Where are we going though?" Jake followed close behind him, trying to keep up as he was walking quite fast. "To get a sweet treat for ourselves!"

Jake's face brightened when they stood in front of an ice cream shop but faltered a little when he saw that was already quite full of people. "I'll go in and get some ice cream. How about you stay here? It's pretty packed in there," Before Jake could even tell him what flavor he wanted, Sunghoon disappeared into the crowd of people, pushing to find his place in line.
"I didn't even get to—" He sighed and went to sit on one of the seats outside of the shop, staring up at the sky. A few birds were chirping away above him on the ledge of the shop's roof, pecking at the black material. He pondered and moved his attention to the group of middle school students walking down the sidewalk on the opposite side from where he was. They were jumped and joking around with each other, loudly laughing or arguing from time to time. He smiled a little, it reminded him of Australia. His last focus was back into the ice cream shop. A family of four exited with wide smiles on their faces, the little girl skipping off ahead of her parents and little sister.
Before he could take himself to focus on anything else, Sunghoon walked towards him with two ice cream cones in his hands. It was the same flavors they had gotten years ago. Jake gasped. "How'd you know I liked chocolate!!" He excitedly took the cone from Sunghoon and bowed a little. Sunghoon froze before grabbed the handle of the seat to pull it out for himself, taking a seat in front of Jake. "I wasn't sure what to get you. I decided to get chocolate because who doesn't like it, right?" Sunghoon lied. Jake slowly nodded, bringing his other hand to grab the cone to switch.
"You know I want to thank you for today," Sunghoon tilted his head, furrowing his eyebrows. "For what?" The younger asked, slowly licking at his ice cream. Jake bit his lower lip, trying his best to calm the panic in his chest from this sudden statement. "I didn't expect to find friends this quickly. Especially you, you were kind to me all day," Sunghoon gushed at Jake's flustered face and how he stuttered a little bit. "Well I mean, we're friends now right?" Jake smiled.
— ❀ —
Jake and Sunghoon walked side to side down the sidewalk. Sunghoon also offered to walk Jake home after they finished their ice cream. Though the older argued that he could walk by himself, he insisted and followed close to Jake. It seemed they had the same route to their houses, maybe Jake's house was on a street nearby. "Want to walk together tomorrow?" Jake asked, tugging on Sunghoon's sleeve. Part of Sunghoon was afraid that when he would wake up the next day, that the day would come without Jake. That he'd wake up and it was all a dream but he continued on and nodded to the older.
"Of course. How should we meet up?" Jake hummed, looking down at his shoes then moving one of his hands to grab his phone. "Oh since we're going to your house first, how about I come to your home tomorrow morning?" Sunghoon could see Jake's excitement from where he was, it made him smile as well. Something about Jake being excited to walk with him and even thanking him for becoming his friend made his heartbeat so quickly. He put a hand on his wrist, feeling his pulse. Trying his best to calm it down, breathing deeply.
They took a turn down a street, one that was a few streets away from Sunghoon's one. This was when Jake teasingly looked back at Sunghoon and began to run forward, waving his hands towards him. "Let's go Sunghoon!" The small male was already much farther than him so it took a little energy to catch up to him. So when he reached Jake, he grabbed onto the back part of his backpack, pulling him gently towards his chest. "Yah! I got you!" Jake laughed, turning to look back
"Why'd you run?" Sunghoon asked as he looked down at the male who was obviously tired from their little run. His breath easing out quickly in comparison to Jake. "How are you not exhausted?" Jake held onto his chest, coughing once before laughing again. The younger crossed his arms with an eyebrow raised. "This is what you get for running off!" The other male pouted and stood up straight, stopping under a tree for a little breather. "We're almost there," Sunghoon didn't know why but that statement made him a little sad.
"Come on, just a little more" Jake pulled on his wrist, continuing a slow-paced walk down the sidewalk. There was a small brown dog in one of the yards that followed them until the gate of its house stopped it, barking at them. "Aw that dog was adorable," Jake's eyes were still glued onto the dog that was looking back at them. "Watch where you're going," Sunghoon pulled Jake towards him again, helping him avoid a mailbox. "Do you want to be knocked out?" The younger asked half-jokingly, half-seriously. He nervously rubbed his arm and looked up at Sunghoon who was still holding on tightly to his arm.
"Sorry~" Jake giggled again, taking a hold of Sunghoon's hand. He continued to walk again—this time looking forward—with Sunghoon close behind him. They soon arrived in front of a beige house that still looked quite empty. A box or two sat outside of the doorstep and the lights were only on the bottom floor. "Layla, come here girl!" Jake called out, kneeling. In a flash of an eye, a tan dog was running towards the small male. With Jake kneeling like this, it almost seemed that she was bigger than him, he looked tiny. "Oh Sunghoon-ah, this is my dog, Layla!" Didn't Jaeyun say he had a dog named Layla?
Okay, this is getting a little too weird now.
