chapter
— 16 —"Are you sure about this?" Jake asked as Sunghoon pulled him along the sidewalk. School finished an hour ago and Sunghoon thought they should hang out. Just the two of them. Jake agreed but was getting a little whiny and nervous, mumbling things under his breath. "I'm sure, you wouldn't mind meeting them right?" Sunghoon stopped in his tracks, turning to stand in front of Jake. He could see the nervousness in Jake's face and how his eyes didn't seem to gleam at him like usual. He pats his hand reassuringly.
"We don't need to. How about I take you home then?" Just as Sunghoon was about to turn them in the opposite direction towards the older's house, Jake grabbed onto his hand and gave it a little tug a few times. "Let's go, I'm fine Hoon" Jake had begun calling Sunghoon that nickname recently. Hoon... It always reminded him of Jaeyun but he still found it adorable when Jake asked him shyly if he could call him that nickname.
"You can meet Gaeul today! I'm sure she'll really love you," Sunghoon could see the look in his eyes brighten again. Squeezing his hand tightly, Sunghoon went to let go right after. He didn't want to make Jake uncomfortable and keep holding it. "You said you had a younger sister right?" Jake asked, clinging just a little closer to the younger's arm. "Yeah, she's around... 5 years younger than us I believe," He nodded.
Their walk was pretty short, Sunghoon could feel Jake take his hand again when they walked up the stairs towards the front door. He was in awe when he heard Jake talking to himself, telling himself that it was alright and that he would be fine. Whilst Jake was pep-talking himself, Sunghoon opened the door and began to slowly put his feet into his house.
"I'm home!" He called out, putting his key down. Jake followed close behind as they continued to take steps into the house, Sunghoon began to pull him towards the kitchen. "Hey mom—Oh and Yeji, I want to introduce you to my friend." Sunghoon was smiling widely. His mother and sister were in the kitchen. It seemed like they were baking something. "It's nice to meet you guys, I'm Jake." He bowed, trying his best to respect the two in front of them.
"I'm Yeji!" His sister greeted, waving with a smile. "I'm Sunghoon's mother, it's really nice to meet you Jake" She bowed as well, walking towards the two. "Yeji and I are baking cookies. I hope you can stay long enough to have some," She pats his arm with a small smile, very excited to meet him. Sunghoon was blushing if he were, to be honest, and he wasn't entirely sure why.
"Jake and I will be in my room," Sunghoon waved and grabbed onto Jake's hand again, pulling him up the stairs. "Excuse us," Jake stated with a bow before following after Sunghoon. They quickly gathered into Sunghoon's room, settling onto his bed. Jake was already pulling out his papers and pencils, ready to begin his homework when Sunghoon stood from his bed. "Wait! Let me introduce you to Gaeul first,"
Jake nodded and went back to reorganizing all of the things in his bag, only leaving out whatever he had for homework. Flipping through his notebook, he stopped on the page with all of his science notes and went into his folder to grab whatever their teacher assigned. Sunghoon came back quickly with a white dog in his arms, cuddling up to her with his nose pressed against hers.
"This is Gaeul!" Sunghoon put her down onto the bed. Jake froze when his eyes laid on Gaeul, mouth going agape for a few seconds before opening up his arms. "Is something wrong?" Sunghoon sat beside him, watching as his dog ran up to Jake to smell his hand. "Oh—It's nothing..." He could tell something was up but decided to leave it for now and enjoy the moment with Jake and Gaeul.
After a few seconds of Gaeul rounding around him and smelling him, she settled beside Jake before resting her head on his thigh. Sunghoon smiled at the two, it was a heartwarming moment and he took the next few minutes to just watch the two interact with each other. Jake was petting her head, eyes glued to her with a small giggle escaping his lips. "Hi Gaeul~ She seems tired," Jake stated,
"Yeji took her for a walk when she came home," Sunghoon sat beside Jake, leaving a little space in between them for Gaeul to fit. When he finally took a seat, she jumped up and onto Sunghoon's lap. With a small bark, she stared up at Jake. "At least she seems to like you though," Jake leaned down and went to eye level with Gaeul, taking her little face into both of his hands. "She's adorable~" Sunghoon swore the feelings he had for Jaeyun hit him again, biting his lower lip.
"Come here girl," He pats his lap, waiting for her to sit in his. When she did, he giggles with an excited expression as he looked up at Sunghoon. "So Jake, what homework should we do first?" "What about you?" They stared at each other before laughing. "Math!" They said at the same time, Jake pointing at him with a smile.
With soft mumble, Jake slowly put Gaeul on the bed beside him so that he could begin his homework. But before he could even place his pencil onto the paper, Sunghoon grabbed his hand and signaled towards the door with his head. "Hm?" The older hummed, putting his pencil down to claim Sunghoon's hand into his grasp. They both enjoyed it, they just didn't want to say it out loud.
"Let's go get cookies, I can smell them from here."
