chapter
— 30 —What is going on? Jake had a scowl on his face as Sunghoon wrapped his arms around his waist, burying his face in his nape. "What are you doing? It's hot, stop." The older immediately pushed him away with a noticeable frown. Sunghoon looked at their surroundings and at the hoodie, Jake was wearing. It's cold outside. They had been together for a while now and Jake had never once pushed him away like this. But he didn't question it and nodded, wanting to be respectful of Jake's boundaries and personal space.
"Ooh! Let me show you what I was planning to wear at our hang out this weekend," Sunghoon excitedly got up from the bed before grabbing a pile of clothing to the bathroom. The seven planned for a little outing to just have some fun and not have to worry about school. Winter break was coming up so it meant they finally could cool down a bit from all of the work.
Sunghoon came out of the bathroom with a bright smile on his face, spreading out his arms whilst making various poses to show his outfit off. He was wearing his favorite sweater and he honestly believed this was one of the best outfits he put together. But when he looked over at Jake to see a straight face, he stopped in his tracks.
"How... How do I look?" Sunghoon asked softly, looking down at his outfit. Is it ugly? "It—It doesn't look great," Jake began, tilting his before clearing his throat. "That color doesn't look good on you," Sunghoon looked down at the floor now, his smile immediately dropping to a frown. How can he say that? "Oh... I'll choose something else to wear then..." Jake nodded, ushering Sunghoon back towards his closet to find another outfit. It hurt, it really hurt... Jake's attitude is different.

Jake's jaw dropped, shaking his head vigorously. "Hoon, you know I would never say that to you." The older noticed how off Sunghoon was being, the frown on his face couldn't be ignored for long. Plus it was obvious that he was being ignored. "I'm sure you were just being honest but it did hurt..." Sunghoon whispered, looking down at his lap where his hands rested.
"Sunghoon I never said that. I'm sure you're outfit was great!" The older grabbed onto his hand, pushing his chin up to shine a smile at him. Jaeyun stressing the both of them out wasn't good for their relationship. Since Sunghoon couldn't decipher if the Jake he was talking to was real or not, it made it easier for misunderstandings to happen.
Jaeyun was too brutally honest and hurt Sunghoon's feelings recently. Telling Sunghoon things that the real Jake would never say to his boyfriend. Not in a million years but Sunghoon didn't know that. They were struggling to keep their relationship stable and in a good state. Not when Jaeyun showed up and told him things that made Sunghoon self-conscious of himself.
"But..." The younger began, clenching onto his own thigh with his left hand. Jake sighed out and stood up from his bed, walking over to sit closer to the latter. Quickly he pulled Sunghoon closer and sealed their lips together. Kissing for a few minutes to get Sunghoon to focus on him. "Jake—"
"Sunghoon, listen Hoon. I would never and had never said anything like that. I'm really sorry that Jaeyun said such things," Jake was still close in proximity to him, arms wrapped around his neck. Sunghoon really didn't know what to do with himself anymore. He knew that whatever he was going through affected Jake just as much as it affected him but he also needed Jake to get through what he was going through. The older was the only one that's really understood and knew how to comfort him without making him seem like he's crazy.
"I'm sorry..." Jake hated hearing this come from Sunghoon because he would always say it when it wasn't necessary. If he were to think back, I'm sorry would probably be one of Sunghoon most frequent sentences to Jake and he hated it. Sure, getting an apology was great but when he apologizes for something that he can't handle himself, it makes him feel bad. "Hoon you did nothing wrong," Jake whispered, resting his forehead on Sunghoon's.
"Jaeyun's been acting differently..." This was the only thing that Sunghoon could tell them apart by now, their attitude. Jaeyun was beginning to tell him things to make him feel bad or make him hate whatever he was doing. Jake tried his best to comfort him and tell him that he never thought any of those things that Jaeyun had told him. And though Sunghoon believed him, the words that Jaeyun stated made his thoughts run. Was he really what Jaeyun was explaining him to bed
"Well, whatever he says is not what I'm thinking, okay? I'm right here, you know that right." Jake pointed at himself before putting a hand over Sunghoon's. As much as Jake wanted to step back and give their relationship a little break to see if that helped with the imagination of Sunghoon's. But then again, the burning in his heart, whenever he saw Sunghoon crying, made him stay. He couldn't just leave the younger when he was struggling when he needed the help most.
Sunghoon though wanted to give Jake a break. He had been talking to Yeji whenever the older wasn't available and would always get the same answer, give yourself and Jake a break, you both need it. And the more Sunghoon thought it over, the more convinced he got that stepping down for a little would help them both out.
"Jake..." Jake's eyes lit up as he nodded slowly, backing up a little to give Sunghoon some space with their arms still around each other. "Jake, let's take a little break. I can see what I'm doing to you" The tone of his voice wavered a little bit at the end as all of the images in his head of Jake's expression whenever he was consoling Sunghoon. "Sunghoon—" "Please listen to what I have to say,"
"I hate hurting you but you also help me deal with Jaeyun a lot. Weighing the two choices of making you go through this and giving it a little break was always in my mind ever since Jaeyun began to pop up again." Sunghoon took in a breath. "But I think trying to give ourselves a break would be a good thing to try. It may help us out and honestly, it may not but we never know unless we try..." Jake knew exactly what he meant and all he could do was nod. They both loved each other so much and wanted the best for each other. So with a short period for Jake to plant his lips on Sunghoon and wrap his arms just a little tighter around the younger, he answered.
"We should try it,"
