chapter
— 27 —Jake scurried behind Sunghoon with his little legs following as quickly as he could. The younger was holding a lot of their belongings while Jake only held a single bag from one of the stores they went to at the mall. But the other seemed to be in a rush, their feet making a loud noise as they rushed down the sidewalk.
"Where are we going in such a rush?!" Jake said between his breathes, finding a short relief when the crosswalk sign changed. "It would be nice if we caught the sunset..." Sunghoon thought out loud, looking back at Jake with a tired look. The older looked up at the sky and then back down at Sunghoon. It was true, the sun was almost at the horizon.
"Why?" "It would be much prettier if we did," They continued to run down the sidewalk, going at a slightly slower pace than before. "We're almost there, I'm really sorry Jakey." He didn't whine and followed behind. Well, maybe he didn't whine because he was exhausted but also because he really had a hope that whatever Sunghoon would show him was good enough to run for. At least he hoped it was good enough.
It was sort of fun running all this way, although it was tiring. The looks they got from a few people they passed was really funny and sort of embarrassing but that's what made it so fun. Looking down at their interlocked hands, Jake tighten his hold just a little with every turn they took.
Their surroundings began to look familiar and before he knew it, they were standing in front of a river. The one closest to their home. Sunghoon paused to put the bags down on the grass, taking the one in Jake's hand to put it down as well. The sun was barely reaching the horizon as Sunghoon took a seat on the grass, patting the spot beside him.
"Come here, let's watch," Sunghoon whispered. Jake took a few seconds to look around at their surroundings first. It was absolutely beautiful. The trees that have surrounded them plus the slow-flowing river creates a really relaxing and tranquil atmosphere that Jake found himself lost in. Sitting down beside Sunghoon, he crossed his arms for warmth, snuggling up to him.
"I came here before and it was really beautiful. I wanted to stay forever but it was freezing," Sunghoon laid back in the grass, facing the sunset with a small smile. "I knew I needed to bring you here one day so that we could just watch," Jake went to lay down beside him, eyes twinkling from the sun. Though they squinted because of the bright rays, the sky changing colors was worth it. Watching as the sky turned a purple and pink color was somewhat relaxing and made Jake love the moment. He loved how silent and comforting it felt being next to Sunghoon while watching this beautiful view.
"It's really beautiful," Jake whispered to Sunghoon, turning on his side a little bit to take a short glimpse of Sunghoon's face. He was already staring back with a blush on his cheeks, smiling when the older male's eyes locked with his own. "Mhm, very beautiful," Sunghoon whispered back, daring to keep eye contact with Jake. The older couldn't look away either, he was too entranced and couldn't find the will in him to look away. He just couldn't.
"Can we stay here for a while? I love how quiet it is," Jake said with a little shiver, huddling a little closer to Sunghoon and welcoming him into his arms. It didn't matter that they were slowly being enveloped in the darkness of the sky, the moment was just too precious to break right now. Neither of them wanted it to end. "Of course, I planned to stay anyways." Sunghoon looked down at him, pulling Jake just a bit closer.
The moon was now visible and the sun was nowhere in sight. Birds couldn't be heard anymore and the only sound that did exist at the moment was the flowing river beside them. It was a bit unsettling laying in the dark but once the street lights turned on, it provided them with dim lightning that made the mood just a little more comforting.
"The stars are coming into view now." Jake started with an adorable grin, pointing up at the sky. Using one of his hands, he outstretched it the farthest it could go and began to trace the stars in random strokes to create images. His imagination ran wild with just a few stars that shined brightly in the darkening sky. It was a shame that the stars weren't as visible as Sunghoon thought they would be. All of the artificial lightning ruined it but it still was beautiful nonetheless. Sunghoon copied his movements, eyes glimmering from all of the light.
"We should do this more." Sunghoon thought out loud, looking over at Jake with a hopeful expression. "Stargazing or hanging out?" Jake asked half-jokingly, turning to face Sunghoon again. "Both, but definitely stargazing. It feels so comforting to just lay here with you like this." Jake nodded and rested his head on Sunghoon's chest, hearing the soft beat of the younger's heart. This made the both of them blush a little bit, clearly a little bit flustered though they have done such things before. "I agree, I would love to do this more. Plus," Jake stopped, making Sunghoon look down at him. "Cuddles are pretty great as well,"
Sunghoon chuckled and brought a hand up to rake it through Jake's soft black hair, playing with a few stray strands that didn't want to fall into place with the others. Jake found it adorable as Sunghoon continued to play with his hair, blushing into his chest. "Hey, Jake?" Sunghoon called out, lifting Jake out of his chest with a hand under his chin. "Mmm?" Jake hummed softly, putting his chin on his chest with his eyes staring right back into his. "Can I ask you something?" Jake's heart rate began to pick up, sitting up a little bit to face him completely. "Su—sure."
Sunghoon took a deep breath, playing around with his jacket. "I've thought it over hundreds and maybe even thousands of times, wondering how to ask you, where I would ask you, and all of the many outcomes that could happen. But I found thinking too hard about it just made me stress out even more..." Sunghoon began, biting on his lower lip. "So with the help of google and... Yeji..." Jake giggled, nodding slowly. "I think I'll just ask you already," Sunghoon sat upright with his legs crossed over each other,
Jake copying this and sitting close beside him.
"Jake... we've told each other that we would go with the flow of things after confessing to each other. And I hope that this is the right time to ask... Jake Sim, will you be mine?" Sunghoon asked slowly. It felt as if his heart would beat out of his chest if he didn't calm down his breathing. He could tell Jake was just as nervous, the older male was fiddling with his hands and harshly bit onto his lips once before nodding. "Yes, I would love to," Jake answered softly, his nervous expression turning to one of pure bliss.Sunghoon excitedly wrapped his arms around Jake, bringing the smaller male into his embrace. The older male wrapped his arms around Sunghoon's neck, enjoying the warmth that he offered every time they were in each other's arms. "Oh gosh I'm so happy," Sunghoon thought out loud, eyes turning into crescents as he backed away to cup Jake's cheeks. With a living look in his eyes and the softest smile Jake has ever seen, Sunghoon spoke to him with his eyes. Looking down at his lips carefully. They did this so many times already that Jake didn't even answer, pressing his lips against Sunghoon's.
"I'm very happy as well,"
