"...both your hands in the holes of my sweater"
The lyrics string their way into the crowded streets of Berlin. I loved playing here; the most lovely people always try to offer me money for playing.
I've been playing on the streets of Berlin for 4 years now, and loving every second of it. I've never done it for money unless I hosted a charity event.
Since I was 7 I've always had an ear for music. From playing the guitar, to signing for my ma.
I barley remember a time that I wasn't addicted to the bliss of music.
I started playing for people when I was 14 at my cousins birthday party. From there, I started with my guitar outside small shops each weekend.
People seemed to love it, so each week, I'd gradually move to bigger crowds and closer to the city. I've been playing in the city since I was 16 every Sunday now, and each time I see the same people always come out to support me.
Ma loves it. She's my biggest supporter. Never once doubted me.
My school gives me 2 periods off a week to go down to the primary school to teach kids guitar. I love it! And so do the kids.
This one little girl, Amiéra, came to see me last Sunday in town and showed me a pretty pink guitar she saved up for herself. My heart melted.
Recently I've been working on writing my own music, instead of doing covers.
My friend Sarah sometimes comes on Sundays to play drums if I need. Which I absolutely love.
I'd never had the idea to start a band though.
My brother Marco and I work with ma in nanas bakery to earn the money we need for our music needs.
Marco sometimes shows up to play electric guitar with me, but he's in his own band among his friends. They're on the road to getting signed with a big record label, which I'm super proud of him for. Being 25 he has a lot more opportunities open to him compared to me being 19.
"Thank you yet again Berlin! I am Coraline, I look forward to playing for you all again next week with 2 special guests" i smile into the crowd and they all clap.
The usual elderly ladies, Mariè and Della help me pack up my equipment per usual.
"Young Coraline" Della looks up, unplugging one of my amps. "Have you considered reaching out to a label?"
I wrap my microphone cord up and pack it into my bag.
"I haven't put much thought into it, I just really love what I'm doing now" i smile. I would be lying if I said I didn't want to be as big as Beyoncé or Britney Spears. But I'd also be lying if I said I didn't like doing this. I'd be happy doing this for the rest of my life.
The two lady's follow me through the alley with my equipment to my car to load up my gear.
I'd have to remember to clean my car out before next week.
"I'd love so much to see you get the recognition you deserve my dear, I'd be at every show in the front row cheering you on" Mariè smiles, shutting my door.
Mariè constantly reminds me of how much I remind her of her grand daughter over in London. 'Coraline dear, oh you'd love Gina. You've got her smile you know'.
Both these beautiful lady's have come every Sunday to see me since I was 16. Over the years the both of them have really became like family to me.
"Mama Mariè, I don't doubt that, and I'd love that. But right now I'm just happy being where I am. See where this takes me".
"Of course dear. Well, will see you next Sunday!" Della waves. I wave back and get in my car to start towards home.
A girl from school was there today and took some photos and videos, so hopefully I'll get them soon.
Every time I perform, I always get someone to record to post to my Instagram.
Although I am only local, I have 135k followers on my music account. Which is unbelievable. That means my music is reaching more than just Berlin; possibly more than Germany.
Deep down I hope that I get noticed through there, but I have no faith in it.
I've had a few people message me saying they have contacts in the music industry, but I've always turned them down. I'd rather get noticed on my own, not through a referral.
When I arrive home, Marco walks out to help unload the car into the garage; our music space. Today I had to borrow one of Marco's amps until mine gets fixed on Tuesday.
"How was the turn out?"
I hang the microphone on the stand in my corner of the space.
"A bit more than usual actually".
"What songs did you play?". I pull down the garage door behind me, unlatching the back fence to make my way inside.
Turning the handle, we walk through the laundry room into the house. Ma wasn't home yet.
"Uh, Before You Go, This City, 8TEEN and Sweater Weather. A few others"
I walk up the hallway to my room, hoping to get some revision done before tomorrow mornings class.
"Awesome. I got to get down town before things shut, but Tuesday we will work on next Sundays list if you can get Sarah here?" Marco suggests.
"Sounds great".
Once I hear the back door shut, I shut my door to change into night clothes.
I hated working Saturdays. I'd much rather do what I need for school on Saturday's than Sundays after a big day. I'm only in my last term of school though, so only 1 more month until I'm done.

Not long after dinner, I end up passing out to a movie on the comedy channel.
I posted the videos from today and already gained another 900 followers and over 3k likes. This was one of my biggest crowds yet.
I swear all this messed up sleep is getting to me lately, because I could of swore that Victoria De Angelis from Måneskin liked my video.
It could be true, but I highly doubt it. No one that big would have seen it.
I'm going crazy...
Short chapter, but this is mainly a kind of backstory/look into Coaline's life ig :)
