Coraline

A wave of heat rushes through my body causing me to wake up.

"Why am I on the floor?..."

I pull myself up off the floor and search for my phone.

8:19am.

"I'm gonna be late!"

How the hell did I manage to sleep in?!

And sleep on the floor?

I rush to get my clothes off to change. I grab out whatever's in my reach; a white mid-length top, denim jeans and a grey jacket.

I did not have time for this today. I was meant to shower.

My hairs a little greasy but I have to deal with it.

I grab my laptop off my desk and chuck it in my bag along with my books and phone.

Running out the door into the kitchen, I swing open the fridge and grab out a water bottle.

"Cora, you're late".

I turn to see ma with crossed arms in the kitchen entry. "I know ma, I somehow fell asleep on the floor".

Ma sighs looking me up and down. "Won't you get dress coded in that?"

Looking down at my top I groan. "I didn't think. I'll just zip up my sweater, worst case I have a spare top in my locker"

"Alright. What about food?"

"I'll manage" I yell behind me running out the back door.

There's no way I'll make first period with morning traffic. I'll have to get a late slip.

Pulling out onto the street, i speed off towards the city to take the highway across town to school.

At the most it'll take 30 minutes to get there. It's a shame that I'm going to miss music first up of all classes today.

The silence starts to get too loud, so I turn the dial to turn on the radio.

"Hallo Germany. Willkommen am Monday. Heute Morning spielen wir die Top-Hits. Zuerst spielen wir Måneskin mit Zitti E Buoni"
(*Hello Germany. Welcome to Monday. This morning we play the Top-Hits. First up we have Måneskin with Zitti E Buoni*)

The all too well known guitar riff fills the car and I turn the volume up.

"Loro non sanno di che parlo
Voi siete sporchi, fra', di fango
Giallo di siga fra le dita"

I start singing along. Although the band is Italian, I understand the words.

I picked up Italian when I was 12 after living in Italy with my dad for 2 years. Dad is Italian, so I'm part German, part Italian. I guess it helps speaking 3 different languages including English.

After winning Sanremo, then moving on to win Eurovision this year, the band has become hugely known worldwide.

I had the chance to meet Victoria from the band when I was 13. This was before she was in Måneskin. She used to do solo bass shows around Rome. A couple months after that, I started seeing her with Damiano, then eventually Thomas and Ethan.

I was moved back with ma later that year. I guess seeing those guys perform kind of inspired me to get out and do it. I knew guitar well before than and was only just starting to sing.

I make it to school just before first period ends and manage to get a late slip.

The bell rings as I reach the classroom.
