Sea Monster

When the water rises too high
And splashes across the deck
And the waves carry our ship away
Threatening to take us down.
When the rain gets in my eyes
And I feel that my blood is now the sea
I slip and slide, trying to steer us away,
But the storm rumbles overhead
And throws us towards the black waters
And lightning flashes across our faces
But the stars and moon aren't in the sky.
Sea green scales ripple below the surface
Sailing through the air in an arc
Slithering beneath our ship
Wrapping itself around our sails
Trying to break us.
But we will take our swords
And we will slash its seaweed skin
And spill its blood on our deck
And in the sea
For all creatures to know
That the monster has fallen.
As the wood splinters
And water flows in beneath our feet
We may have defeated the mighty
But still we will fall.
Others take their boats
And they escape our wreckage
But the storm still continues
Throwing me over the edge
And like the monster
Like our ship
Like the rain
I fall.
The churning ocean takes me in,
Sweeping me away
And filling my lungs,
My bloodstream.
And the strikes of lightning get murky
As I sink like an anchor
And the fish swim in and out of my sight
And just like the sea,
Everything is dark.
