Let's Start a Fire

Every night I lose more sleep
Twisting in these sheets
They say my thoughts wander too deep
but I always forget my dreams
when I wake.
These blankets don't keep me warm,
outside my window there's a storm
the stitches on my lungs are torn
this rain strays from the norm
causing a quake.

And that's when I felt it deep inside,
I knew our hearts were shielded with ice.
We've had prolonged exposure to a frozen world,
and in the midst of it all,
I think I want to start a fire.

I haven't got no flint or stone,
I'm starting on my own
making a fire from what's grown
from my desire alone
to feel my heart burn.
I'm going to start a revolution,
overcome this destitution
with this burning resolution
let my flame's evolution
make the frost turn.

My brother tells me that he cannot light a spark
he lays in bed, staring at the ceiling in the dark.
This life has left him lonely and depressed
and now I know
I must start a fire for the both of us.

I gather my friends saying let's start a fire
The world has a need for light that's dire
so as the night grows ever nigher
let the flames soar on higher
and let's start a fire together.
They cannot break already broken hearts
our stitches may come loose but we won't fall apart
no one can stop what was burning from the start
these flames cannot die, they simply depart
let's start a fire together.
