Quinn Angelo
I walk up to her house and knock on the door. A few seconds later a lady opens the door. That's definitely not her mom because she was long gone. Stepmom? It seemed possible.
"Are you lookin' for Lilly?" she asks.
"Yeah, I am."
"3rd door on the left." She smiles and lets me in. What if I was going to kill her?
I knock on the door and hear a muffled 'come in', pushing open her bedroom door. I'm transported into Lillian's world. Her room is painted a soft grey color with white furniture to match. The only pop of color is the plant that sits by her windows. She lays on her bed with textbooks surrounding her.
"What are you doing here?"
"We need to win this race because we don't have any points racked up and we kinda need this."
"Still don't see why you're here." she goes back to writing something down.
"Your dad loves cars, right?" she nodded, "then he probably has a fast car right?"
"Do you know anything about cars?" She asks
"Not really." I trail off.
"Yet you want to drive, it would be ok if it was your car but this is my dad's car, I'm driving and if you have a problem don't come to the track," she says, still not paying any attention to me being in her room.
"Fine but we're using my car next time. What car are we racing?" I stand in her doorway not knowing to come in or stay out.
"You can come in, you know that I won't bite." She pats the bed beside her.
I sit on the bed and she closes her notebook giving me her full attention.
"A Lamborghini, I had originally thought about a Tesla but this Lamborghini has undergone changes to make it faster so we're good. Do you know what car Jacob is using?" she says, moving her hands around as she talks.
"I'm pretty sure it's a corvette."
"We are definitely gonna win." she smiles, a genuine smile.
She leads me to the garage where the car is kept.
"Damn." I mumble under my breath when I see the car we are racing.
"I know," Lillian says, tossing me the keys. "You can drive there, it wouldn't be fair to keep such a nice car to myself."
I slide into the car and admire the beauty of it. The car starts with a roar and we're off to the track.
"Nervous?" I tease.
"Honestly, a little," she says, taking in a shaky breath.
"We'll win, I know so," I say, moving my hand to rest on her thigh. The warmth of her body heats my hand making me aware of what I'm doing. I pull my hand away as if she burnt me.
We get to the track and I park the car on the sidelines, next to Jacob's car. I step out of the car and Lillian rounds the car to stand next to me. Jacob and Adelyn are inside Jacobs' car arguing but we can't hear anything.
I go up to the window and tap my knuckles against the glass causing them to both jump. They step out of the car and face us. Adelyn's face is flushed and Jacob looks ready to fight.
"Cute outfits." Jacob waves his hand to Lillian and I. I look down and so does she. We're both wearing grey sweats. The only difference is she is wearing a black tank top and I'm wearing a white shirt.
"I didnt wanna wear a dress and heels, I don't want you to win." she narrows her eyes and steps closer to them.
"You really think you can win?" Jacob takes a step closer, fire burning in his eyes.
"I know I can win." another step forward. I'm not sure if I should intervene.
"Really because-" he's cut off when Adelyn puts her hand on his arm and says something to him.
I take this opportunity to pull Lillian towards me. I lean against the car and hold her to my front. "You're really sure you can win this," I say, taking in how nice her body feels on mine.
She leans her head back onto my shoulder. I look down at her and she looks up at me. "I've been racing since I was little," she says, looking at my lips.
We climb into the car getting ready to take off.
"Ready...set...go." the referee says and we speed off.
She concentrated on the dirt road ahead. "How far behind do you think they are?" she asks, constantly checking her mirrors.
"About a few yards? I don't know." I look over my shoulder. A frustrated sigh comes from the passenger seat.
We keep going around in circles and we finally reach the last lap.
"What are you doing!?" I yell when Lillian lets Jacob pass us in the last lap.
"Relax, he thinks he's gonna win so he's going to relax a bit, and then at the very end we'll speed up and win."
We get close to the end and Jacob is still a few feet ahead.
"We're not gonna make it, we're not gonna make it," I chant.
She steps on the gas and we pass the finish line first.
A look of disbelief crosses my face and with a smug Lillian says, "I told you."
