My side burns when the fabric of my shirt brushes against it but it's all worth it. I sit through psych working on my research project but I find myself glancing up at her. Her brown hair looks shiny as it flows down her back. She's wearing black jeans and a black shirt, we're matching once again.

"The bell is about to ring but all of your research should be done and you all should have started the presentation part of it. It could be a slide show or you reading from a paper," our psych teacher says his eyes darting around the class. The bell rings not even a second later. I shove my laptop into my empty book bag and wait for her.

"You waited for me?" she asks.

"Duh," I say as a ghost of a smile graced her lips. "Does your side hurt?"

"A little," she shrugs her shoulders.

"So if I did this," I poke her side she got tattooed, "it doesn't hurt."

She turns to glare at me and her elbow goes flying to my side. I groan in pain and she laughs.

"Hey?" Jacob says from down the hall.

"Addy," Adelyn launches into Lil's arms like they have been separated because of a war or something.

"Hey babe," Lil says, hugging her back.

She pulls away to stand next to Jacob, I guess they worked things out, her eyes dart between the two of us. "Your matching, how cute." She points at our outfits.

"Coincidence," I say, shrugging my shoulders.

Mhm, I heard from my best friend.

I sling my arm over Lil's shoulder and I push us past them. I lead us toward the main doors of the school, were doing another fuck-it list item. "Where's your keys I whisper to the air between us." She pulls out her keys from her book bag. I snatch the keys from her and run away. My feet hit the pavement and the constant tapping noise is heard from both of us running.

I glance over my shoulder and realize she's not far behind. I push the button on the key fob to unlock the car. I throw open the black car and slide in the leather of the seats which are cool and with a black interior it gives the car a mysterious look.

"I hope you know I hate you," Lil says, sliding into the passenger side of the car.

"Good because if you liked me that would be concerning," I smirk towards her. "How are you not out of breath?" I ask, realizing that she's not heaving.

"Coach makes us run laps, you know and we only run across the parking lot, not a marathon. She rolls her eyes. I pull out of the school parking lot when she asks, "can we get food? I'm starving."

I roll the windows down as the warm mid morning air hits our faces and blows Lil's hair in different directions.

I pull into a fast food line, "whatcha want?"

"Cookies and cream milkshake and fries."

I pull up to the order station and order two cookies and cream milkshakes and two fries.

"Turn left here," Lil's says, sipping her milkshake.

I turn left into the parking lot of a playground. She unbuckles her seatbelt, grabbing her food in her hands. "You coming?" She closes the door and leans through the open window.

"To the playground?"

"Yes, the playground dumbass."

"Aren't we too old?"

"Fine you stay here," she turns away from the car and walks to the playground.

"Fuck it," I say to nobody in particular. I climb out of the car pressing the lock feature on the keyfob. I turn back and realize how our car sticks out, a black Maserati against the colorful minivans. I follow behind her.

I find her sitting on a swing so I sit next to her as the breeze blows her hair. She looks calm, a smile gracing her lips, a real genuine smile.

We finish eating our food in silence. The only noise between us is the kids screaming on the playground.
