I lay on my bed flipping through a magazine while Adelyn rifles through my closest. She decided to have her birthday dinner today but didn't have anything to wear so being the amazing friend I am I let her pick anything out of my closet.
"Ok, I'm done acting like nothing is wrong." she turns to me holding a dress in her hand.
"What do you mean?" I glance at her.
"I gave you all week to tell me what's up but nothing," she moves to sit on the bed with me. "What's wrong?"
I sigh, "Do you want the bad or worse news."
"Worse," her painful expression makes me sad, I didn't say anything sooner.
I let a brief silence fall between us before I said, "The test came back positive." I whisper.
Her eyes fill with shock and disbelief but not pity, I don't pity from her or anyone.
"It's nothing too serious right now but if it gets to that point it could end badly," I answer her unasked questions.
She pulls me into a hug and I feel her heart racing. "I love you," she whispers.
"I love you more." I hug her tighter to me, never wanting to let go.
We arrive at the restaurant fashionably late and find the boys waiting for us. Jacob whispers something in Addy's ear and she blushes. A hostess escorts us to a table in the back. Jacob and Adelyn sit next to each other and that leaves me to sit next to Quin.
"No bitchy comments toward me? This is new." Quin says.
I look him up and down, "I'm not wasting any energy on someone that wastes space." I smile sweetly at him.
"Hi I'm Anderson, I'll be bringing your food out tonight." He pours us a glass of water and then a glass of wine.
"I'm confused?" Quin leaned close to me to whisper.
"Why?" I ask to take a sip of my water.
"Why aren't we ordering?"
"Well, here they bring out the food the cook has prepared for us. That's why you need reservations. And the menu changes every night. Also, the food and wine are paired together to compliment the dish."
He nods and goes to take a sip of his wine, his lips pucker as if he drank something sour.
"Not your type?" I laugh.
Dish after dish, seven total dishes to be exact, are brought out and are devoured by us all but what really brought the whole meal together was the desert. A chocolate mousse with a mint and gold leaf garnish. Simple and elegant.
"I hope you enjoyed your meal," the waiter says, coming back to take our last dishes.
"I'm stuffed," Quin groans from beside me.
"I don't think I need to eat for another week." Adelyn laughs.
"I almost forgot," I slid a small teal box across the table to her.
She carefully lifts the lid of the box to reveal a silver chain necklace. "It's beautiful. Thank you."
We get up to leave the restaurant. I get into my car alone since Adelyn leaves with Jacob. Right as I am about to leave my parking spot Quin drives up to me.
"Last one to your house owes the other person a favor."
"Ok, you're on." With that we both speed away.
We both made a right out of the restaurant parking lot. I stay within the speed limit because even though I want to win I don't want to end up with a speeding ticket. I see his bright red Ferrari speed pass. I let him pass but increased my speed a bit. Getting onto an empty highway is like a dream: no cars are in the way. I step on the gas nearing 120 miles per house. I passed him, keeping the same speed I put some space between us before letting off the gas a bit. My heart is racing almost as fast as my car is now. The adrenaline makes me high.
I get off at the exit and his car is slowly getting closer to me and right as we reach my house his car speeds forward making him win.
"Fuck." I mutter to myself.
I park my car next to his and step out to see Quin with a huge smile on his face. I walk up to his car.
"Shockingly, the racing queen didn't win."
"Audi's aren't built for racing, unlike your Ferrari," I say, hating that I lost to him.
"All I hear are excuses."
"What favor do you want?" I say wanting to get this out of the way.
"I'll get my favor from you later." He says with a sly smile. He gets into his car which starts with a roar and drives away.
