PART 25Chase was awoken from his slumber by a slight knock on the door, the male glancing at his beloved then back at the mahogany door in a kind of confusion. Placing one foot on the ground, he maneuvered around the smaller boy until he was able to stand.
The clock read 3:15 am as he grabbed a shirt from the nightstand and shrugged it on. The blonde approached the door carefully, Aaron had promised there were guards on watch 24/7 but since the attack on his pack, Chase wouldn't put it past his vindictive cousin, Damien, to do something again.
Opening the door with a soft click, he was surprised to see Aaron on the other side. The male in question, looking a little perplexed, his bushy brows furrowed as he regarded the male with all seriousness.
"What's wrong?" Chase asked in response, the blonde closing their bedroom door behind him, Aeris didn't need any more surprises today.
"We have found most of your pack, they are staying deep in the mountains at an abandoned campground," Aaron spoke pausing for a moment, "We want to know how you want to continue, I can offer the help of my pack and we can rebuild everything you lost, as my brothers mate it's the least I can do."
Chase took in this information, the alpha leaning back against the wall behind him, his legs almost giving out from under him.
It was good news.
They were safe, hidden.
There wasn't a day that he didn't beat himself up for not being able to protect them.
He felt like as an Alpha he had undoubtedly failed them, facing them he knew would be one of the hardest things he would ever do.
"I need to do it. Alone. We will rebuild and we will do it alone," he paused, taking a deep breath, "Aaron I know you understand the gravity of what I'm feeling right now... as an alpha, I feel like I have failed them and betrayed their trust. I betrayed your brothers' trust, I couldn't even protect him."
Aaron was quiet for a moment, his own wolf pacing around in the confines of his mind. He knew how the young alpha felt, Aaron had experienced it himself.
"Chase the way I see it, you did everything you could. That bloodsucker did a surprise attack because he knew with a planned one, a battle between your pack and his coven wasn't a promised win," Aaron spoke, the man's eyes focused on Chase.
"You did what you could and I respect you for that. You brought my brother back and you will regain the respect of your pack. You will get through this," Aaron finished, the man raising a hand to settle on Chase's shoulder, squeezing lightly to show his support.
Nothing else was said as the eldest brother pulled away and bid him goodnight, then continued down the hall.
The blonde took a deep breath, those words invigorating his very being and waking the vicious, restless wolf inside of him. That animal clawing at the surface of his subconscious and radiating through his veins.
He knew what he had to do.
-
In the morning, Aeris awoke to the scent of brown sugar and maple waffles, the male shifting beneath their downy covers as he searched for one blonde alpha, his mate.
Sitting up with a yawn, the brunette scanned the room with a frown.
Chase was gone and judging by how cold his side was, he had been gone a while.
Resisting the urge to pout, the male swiftly got up and out of bed. Doing his best to brush his teeth and comb his hair as he searched for something to wear in the gigantic closet his brothers had got him.
It was filled to the brim with light and pastel colors, knit and fuzzy sweaters alike.
It was a dream.
Settling on a beige hoodie and a pair of skinny jeans, he pulled them on, the male checking himself once in the mirror before going on a search for food and his disappeared mate.
Darren and Derrick were the first to greet him, happy smiles adorning their faces as they shoveled waffles into their faces.
It was a heartwarming sight and it had been so long since Aeris was able to be the beholder.
Making himself a plate, he stacked it high with waffles and drowned the delicious pastries in syrup. Aeris loved how the syrup soaked into the dough and made it an even darker brown.
Adding a side of bacon and a helping of eggs, he took his seat next to his brothers and watched them fight over who got the last piece of sausage. Aeris laughed at this as he watched the TV, one of his favorite shows playing in a loop.
It was almost like old times.
But he knew it wasn't.
Times had changed and now Aeris would have to get used to that.
But where the hell was Aaron and Chase?
