PART 12

His breath came out in pants, nostrils flared as he stared into the distance. Beyond the trees and the woods that concealed everything in darkness, but at the one source of light and the one source of his happiness, trapped in a house full of abominations and his one and only natural born mortal enemies.

He would not stand for this.

It had happened once a millennia ago and for it to happen again, would be against his every will.

"Damien..." the male paused, "We should start heading back-"

"Shut up," he cut him off not even a moment later, fangs bared and eyes tinged red, "I will not be defeated and especially not by those spineless mutts."

"Yes but your highness now is not the time," the calculating male continued, his stance next to the elder vampire, completely rigid, and whether in fear or in an unimaginable amount of respect he couldn't tell.

"One day," he sneered, glancing back at the mansion once more, "One day I will come for you, and all of them shall die."

Chase took a deep breath, leaning against the marble counter as he drank another cup of water. His sixth glass. His nerves were still on edge and his wolf was pacing the confines of his mind, almost as if he already knew it wasn't over.

Chase knew his cousin well, nothing between them settled so easily.

The last time... the last time barely left both of them alive. For this to happen again would be-

"A war," he muttered in deep frustration, he didn't doubt his own strength not one bit, but to put Aeris through something like that would be cruel.

His heart thumped in his chest, so loud and clear the blonde could hear the rhythm in his ears as it bounced off of his chest. Having Aeris this close was hard.

He wanted to run upstairs and take the boy into his arms but he knew he wasn't ready, he sighed, placing the empty glass in the sink. Some of the blonde strands falling into his face as he gripped the edge of the counter and groaned, all of his frustration and stress pouring out into one heartfelt sound.

The marble cracking underneath his grip as he tightened it uncontrollably.

He wouldn't lose him, not to anybody.

But until their bond grew stronger there was nothing Chase could do but be there for him. Though the true final reckoning is when the boy turned eighteen, it was then that his own blood would crave Chase's, creating a bond stronger than any other.

Maybe then Aeris would stop being afraid of him.

The scent of blueberry waffles awoke the boy many hours later, after a night full of tossing, turning and all of his thoughts. Though the idea about Chase being his mate wasn't entirely being completely rejected or embraced. He decided to just take it day by day.

Or whatever that really meant.

Climbing from under the covers, he crossed the room over to his duffel bag, the contents packed tightly into the small teal and pink bag.

Ruffling through it, he pulled out a pair of skinny jeans and a white v-neck sweatshirt. A sweater he loved to wear when he needed that little bit of comfort that came with wearing an all-cashmere garment.

Huffing, he pulled it over his head and then the jeans. The denim sliding so perfectly over his hairless legs, something his brothers made fun of him about since they were all as hairy as bison.

Feeling a bout of confidence emanating from this particular outfit he decided he might as well explore, especially since the original blueberry scent had been mixed with the scent of hickory bacon and now his stomach was rumbling in tandem.

Walking out of his room the male shuffled down the hall, the large house lit by the sunlight from outside. Voices talking amongst themselves as children sped by him and played, he had expected this to be different but really they were all regular people.

Until the moon came out.

Shaking the thoughts from his mind he followed the delicious scents, though it wasn't long before he was standing in a kitchen, it's occupation level filled to the max and they were all staring at him. The once lively room suddenly quiet.

Blushing, he practically squeaked out a greeting, "Hello!"

This was apparently enough for them as they all went back to their food, sending him quiet smiles, something Aeris greatly appreciated since he didn't necessarily want these strangers to dislike him just yet.

Finding a spot on the kitchen counter, he took a seat, quickly greeted by a brunette woman with graying hair and Aeris had an inkling about who she was.

"Hello Aeris dear, I'm the Luna of this pack and my son has told me a lot about you," she spoke, her eyes crinkling just a bit as she beamed at him.

"Oh- hello, you're Chases' mommy?" He asked, tilting his head just a bit as he played with the frayed edges of his oversized sweater.

"Yes I am and now I'm yours too," she muttered, turning back to the stove, pressing a button on the waffle maker.

Aeris blushed at this, looking down at his thighs for a moment.

'She was his mommy now? Even though he wasn't even good enough for his own mommy?' This thought repeated over and over in his mind as the woman sat a plate in front of him, the contents seemingly spilling over the sides.

"Thank you," he beamed before digging in, the boy munching happily on a waffle as the woman poured him a cup of orange juice to go along with the meal.

Aeris didn't eat a lot, but the few times that he did, it was a lot.

He was halfway done with his feast when Chase came out, and Aeris could tell by the shift in the room. As members nodded at their alpha in a kind of quiet respect, something Chase responded to with a heartwarming smile.

Which eventually made its way to Aeris, who completely froze in his seat.

"Did you have a good sleep, little one?" Chases' voice boomed close to the smallers ear sending shivers down his spine as the alpha gently grasped his hip, letting go just as quickly.

And even though the touch was fleeting, it sent tingles through his body.

The feeling was so foreign that Aeris froze mid-chew the male swallowing abruptly as he forced out a timid reply, "Yes... I feel a lot better today."

"That's good Aeri, really," he smiled at him, leaning against the counter as he crossed his arms across his chest, "Oh yeah, get ready for school, we're going to be late so I'm driving."

The boy hiccuped, his cheeked burning as he nodded obediently, "Okay!"

Aeris had never been late to school, and he wasn't about to start now.
