PART 6

Chase wasn't exactly surprised when he made his way around the house to find nothing, absolutely nothing. Though his wolf was growling and scratching at the corners of his subconscious, indicating the opposite.

He felt bad locking Aeris in the car, but something about the smell that lingered in the woods was throwing him off. It was familiar but then again it wasn't. Almost like someone was toying with him, wanting to see how he would react.

After about twenty minutes of sniffing around the house and the foliage behind it, he decided to give up. Well at least for the moment, because the smell had gone and it was getting harder and harder to trace it.

He made his way back to the car, Aeris watching through the window, his expression one of deep confusion. Chase could also sense fear, even though he had never meant to scare him.

He let the boy out of the car, watching as he sprung out and rounded on him. "What the hell? You can just lock me in a car!" he glared, crossing his arms across his chest, the sassiest
Chase had ever seen him. Which was actually really cute.

"Look I know..." he paused, letting out a breath, he had to lie. Telling him the truth wasn't a good option right now.

"I thought I saw something and I freaked out, I don't know..." he muttered, scratching the back of his neck almost embarrassed by how this must look to the other.

And with that vague answer, he was back to his car in a flash, muttering a quick goodbye before jumping in and speeding off.

Leaving Aeris even more confused than he was before.

--

Aeris used the key to unlock the front door, tossing his bag and wet jacket on the ground. Today had been tiring and very confusing, and now all he wanted to do was make some hot chocolate, grab some chocolate chip cookies, and cuddle up for the rest of the night. Maybe watch Twilight or some other supernatural teen romance movie.

He made his way to the kitchen, heating up the water for his hot chocolate, as he climbed up on the counter. The cookie jar was placed on a shelf too far up, something Aaron did on purpose so that the smaller wouldn't just eat sweets 24/7. Aeris rolled his eyes at the yellow sticky note on the clear glass jar containing his prized goodies, 'Don't you dare!'

Now if Aaron was actually home to tell him that he would probably listen. But he wasn't, so he was gonna have a damn cookie.

Unscrewing the lid, still balanced on the marble counter, he wasn't surprised to see another sticky inside the lid, "Aeris I mean it!"

With another roll of his eyes, he tossed the lid to the side, picking out five chocolate chip cookies and carefully setting them on a glass plate below him.

--

Once he was situated in his bedroom, his hot cocoa and cookies on the nightstand next to him as he cuddled his furry purple blanket, he pulled up a movie on demand and settled in to watch it.

Though halfway through the movie after the small boy had finished off his snacks, exhaustion took over, lulling the boy into a deep sleep.

Aeris completely unaware of the tall, dark figure silently climbing into his bedroom window.
