N i n e t e e n : Forgive Me, First Love

You're not even sure that it's possible but somehow two weeks before the wedding the castle gets even busier. You know that the ceremony will take place at a chapel connected to the castle and the reception in the ballroom, both of which you had never seen before, in real life.

Breakfast is normal but you notice that the King is much quieter than usual. Usually he leads the conversations but today, Jean is the one that lifts up everyone's mood.

You lean in towards Eren, "Hey is your father, okay?"

The man shrugs and puts some food into his mouth, "Probably not. No one knows why but every year on this day my father just gets really depressed, almost like he's mourning. We've tried to pry but he just sulks all day and then the next day acts like nothing has happened."

You pull away a little surprised that Eren says these words so nonchalantly, "Oh, wow. So you're saying that no one besides him knows what happened on this date?"

"Nope, not even my mom."

You're silent for a few seconds, "You know Eren, I haven't seen you spend that much time with your dad. Maybe you should make some time for him before the wedding, I'm sure maybe he does want someone to reach out when he's feeling better." You hope your words don't sound suspicious but just in case, you'd never forgive yourself if Eren didn't spend at least one more memorable day with his dad.

He thinks about it before nodding and giving a smile, "You're right, it has been some time since it was just us two."

Both of you are taken out of the conversation as the King speaks for the first time today besides simple greetings, "Y/N, my daughter, please ask Levi to bring you to the throne room after you're finished with your breakfast." He excuses himself first for the first time since you've entered the castle and you assume it's to go to the throne room.

Queen Carla places her fingers lovingly onto the King's hand but he doesn't reciprocate her touch and walks out of the dining room.

Everyone looks at you, wondering why the King had singled you out but you're just as confused as anyone else. You only talked to the King in the dining room during meal times, never had you two been alone anywhere else. To be honest there was no reason to.

It's not like you were scared to be alone, but Eren's words about what today meant to the King, did make you nervous.

You feel his hand grab yours underneath the table and you turn to see his encouraging face, "Don't be nervous, I think my dad likes you more than me," He laughs and you smile back excusing yourself to follow the king. The curiosity was eating you alive and you didn't think you could stomach another bite of breakfast after that.

As you exit, Levi leads you to the throne room because you had never been there before despite knowing that it was where official council meetings were held.

"Should I be nervous, because I feel like my heart is going to jump out of my chest."

Beside you Levi is just as nervous as you and with his own assumptions about what this meeting was about. Did the King finally think that his services were no longer needed to protect you? Would he dismiss him from guard duty? In the beginning Levi couldn't wait to end this mission as soon as possible but now he would do whatever necessary, say whatever he had to, to convince the King to let him stay by your side. No one could protect you the way he could.

"Levi?" His head snaps up as he realizes he never answered your question and you are looking at him expectantly.

"I wouldn't worry Miss Y/N, the King is kind hearted so I'm sure it's nothing too big."
