The rest of the day passes by in a blur as you decide not to attend lunch or dinner after your talk with the King. Both Hange and Levi chastise you for not taking care of your body when you were training vigorously but your mind reels with so many thoughts and the sadness you feel for Abeli and the King's love. It hits so much deeper when you compare it to yours and Levi's.
You weren't meant to be together for more than one reason but you still loved him even if you shouldn't. You had thought about perhaps telling Levi because you didn't want to purposely leave out what you had learned. The same thought had crossed your mind for telling Eren, he deserved to know why his dad was so mopey on this day every year, the origin behind his own name, and the reason why his father had given him the dagger for his 17th instead of Zeke. But you decide against telling the both of them, your only reason being that the King had purposely decided to not tell the both of them on his own. It wasn't your secret to tell and the story hadn't given you much information about the assassination attempt besides the origin of the dagger and how it had gotten chipped.
The knock on your door takes you out of your own thoughts and once you nod, Levi opens the door to reveal Jean waiting patiently with his guard Connie behind him. You bow to greet him but he waves his hand to show that it wasn't necessary.
"Well, Princess, what a nice room you have here." He compliments genuinely.
"Came to brag about how much bigger yours is?" You joke, trying to cheer yourself up but it doesn't really work.
"Au contraire, mon amie. I came to ask why you weren't at lunch or dinner. Well, you, the King, Eren, and Historia."
Your eyes widen at how many people skipped their meals, "That many people? I don't know what happened to Eren and Historia, but I just wasn't feeling up to it today."
He nods, "I hope you feel better but also I don't because can you imagine how awkward it was for it to just be the Queen, Zeke, and I? They've been awkward for as long as I've known them. I've always felt that Zeke gets a bit upset that his father moved on so quickly from his mother but jeez, I had to excuse myself after like five minutes." He playfully punches you on the shoulder, "You left me to the hounds."
You chuckle, "I didn't know that would happen. Next time just know when to not show up."
He rolls his eyes, "Seriously though, are Eren and Historia ok? After you left with the King it's obvious they went somewhere together."
Jean's explanation places the puzzle pieces together but you bite your tongue to not reveal Eren's business. You're sure that Eren had ended things with Historia just as he had told you he would.
"I think you're overestimating how much I know, your majesty."
Jean raises an eyebrow, "I think you usually know a lot more than you let on, princess." You open your mouth to refute his claim but he turns around to leave, "But if you're not telling me then it's either not important or not my business. I'm too busy to get in between a lover's quarrel. I just wanted to make sure they weren't going to pull some Romeo and Juliet shit now that the wedding is right around the corner."
"They won't... I think?"
He laughs, "That's good enough for me." He leaves and Connie closes the door behind the both of them.
Levi turns to you, "So you're seriously not going to tell me what the King talked to you about?" You shake your head and he sighs, "I won't force you, but you know that you can tell me anything right? If that's where the hesitation comes from-"
"It's not, it's simply just not my story to tell. The only thing I learned that was valuable to our mission is where the dagger came from. Remember in Eren's room he guessed that the King's father gave it to him but he was wrong, someone else gave it to the King when he was still living in Asiko. He got into a fight before he left and that's how it got chipped, it has to be the murder weapon Hange talked about."
