"So, usually we have an agenda planned for what will be discussed at the next meeting which would be agreed on at the previous one. However, obviously, there's going to be a bunch of things talked about that weren't planned such as, what to do now that both the King and Queen are dead, and finding out who exactly is responsible for the assassination. If I had to bet my money, a majority of the meeting will be Erwin presenting his findings, deciding when Zeke will be crowned King, and what to do until then." Levi explains and you take in his words.
A sigh escapes your lips, "I can't believe Zeke is going to become King so soon. The fate of this entire kingdom is in the hands of a man who acts like an emo teenager."
Levi shrugs, "Most people in power don't belong there. Grisha was a magnificent King who Vyrena prospered under but before him there were a lot of shitty kings. Trust that Vyrena has had its fair share of power struggles throughout the centuries, and it's exactly why the King isn't the end all be all. The council's vote is more important when it comes to making decisions. However, the King does have executive power so, if he wants to push something forward at any time he can, at the end of the day he's still king not president. Although it's frowned upon, he doesn't ever HAVE to listen to the council if he doesn't want to."
"Knowing Zeke he'll want his coronation to happen as soon as it possibly can. But if Erwin's report comes back that Zeke is a prime suspect in his father's murder, shouldn't the council put him on trial and wait until we get to the bottom of the case?"
"Mmm" Levi makes a sound of indecision, "It really depends on if they vote for that. Remember, it's not exactly a secret that the previous King Grisha killed his father, and he became King just fine. I'm confident that if it ever came down to it though, we could push a decision through as you, I, Hange, Erwin, and Eren are on the same side. But if there's no evidence...it'd be difficult for that decision to even make its way to a vote. Do you want me to explain the rules of voting one more time?"
"It wouldn't hurt to get a refresher."
"During the meeting we'll discuss each topic one by one and at the end of each topic we'll vote. The voting is valid only if 70% or more of the members are present. The only way for the vote to be appealed is if there is a tie, if 70% of council members are not present, which in our case would be 3 people, or if the missing people voting on one side would've caused a tie. If it goes to appeal twice, whichever way the King votes is the final decision."
You nod, "I'm a bit nervous, but I got it. It's just a lot of pressure, and we have no idea what'll be on Erwin's report until the actual meeting."
Levi looks as if he's about to place a calming hand onto your thigh before he stops himself and places his hand on the table, "Listen, these meetings get intense, and intimidation is a tactic used often. Just stand your ground, listen to the facts, and vote whichever way you feel is best for Vyrena. I know that you are Asikan and that identity can never be stripped from you but you're Vyrenian in the eyes of the law," Levi struggles to continue but finds his words, "Your children will eventually be, your husband is, and so your best interests lie in what's best for this Kingdom."
For a few minutes you guys continue discussing before you read for the rest of the night. The next few days pass by in a blur. Eren doesn't leave his bedroom for five days straight and every single morning that you ask to see him, he denies. Of course you find out through Mikasa's lips but she assures you that he's fine and recovering as best as he can.
For those five days the dining room is empty at meal times, not only has Jean returned back to France for his own safety without even saying goodbye but Historia and Zeke mainly keep to themselves.
Erwin comes to you personally to let you know the meeting will be tomorrow but keeps his lips sealed when it comes to what he will report. Both your self defense training with Levi and your premonition training with Hange is put on pause. She's busy performing autopsies, preparing the bodies for the funeral with Armin and you're sure a lot more. As for why your training with Levi stopped...it was hard to say. You're sure that it was because it would be difficult for you two to just go back to regular training. No kisses when you did good, no sexual innuendos, and no unnecessary touching; pretending was already hard enough but having those memories when training would make it harder.
