"Now, before we begin, I have something to share with you all," Professor Snape began as everyone took their seats.

"Although some of you might already know, the Yule Ball—a part of the Triwizard Tournament—is quickly approaching."

"For the fourth years and above who are planning to attend, it will begin Christmas Day in the Great Hall at promptly eight o'clock, and will continue no later than midnight."

"May I remind you that you are allowed to bring...partners, if you so wish," he added with a disgusted look on face.

"Now that is said, you can focus your attention on something more useful. Potions, perhaps?"

But most of the students were still thinking about the upcoming event...

"I can't wait for the Yule Ball!" Malorie said excitedly as they walked out of the class.

"Yeah, it sounds fun!" Ed agreed.

"We should go shopping for dresses and shoes soon," Malorie suggested.

"You know how much I hate heels, though," Ed commented.

"I know, you say they aren't practical," Malorie rolled her eyes.

"But I'm sure we'll find something for you to wear that will impress Malfoy," she added.

"What?!" Ed said a little too loudly, causing some people in the corridor to look at her.

"Come on, are you really that oblivious?" Malorie asked.

"You clearly both like each other," she explained.

"You don't even have any proof," Ed denied.

"Yes I do, you tell me everything you do together. Let's see, climbing the tree, the late night common room talk-"

"Okay, okay, but that doesn't mean he likes me."

"Then just go ask him yourself," Malorie suggested.

"No way! This is Malfoy we're taking about," Ed protested.

"Just- just tell me your honest opinion. I really, really like Malfoy, you genuinely think he likes me back?"

"Absolutely," Malorie said encouragingly.

But in order to go to the ball with anyone, Ed had to convince her parents to let her stay over winter break.

"We have a problem," Ed said to Malorie as they made their way to the Great Hall to sign up to stay for the holidays.

"What is it?"

"Read this. My mom sent it back with Mercury just now," she said as she put a piece of parchment on the table.

Ed,

I know you asked to go to the Yule Ball, but are you sure this is what you want? Your brothers will miss you, and so will your father and I. We just want to make sure you really want to go before you decide to stay at Hogwarts until Easter Break.

Love,
Mom

"Well, she didn't say no!" Said Malorie, slightly surprised.

"I know, but this is exactly what they do. They try to make me feel guilty so that I won't go," said Ed.

"Just say you really want to go."

"You do want to, right?" Malorie asked.

"Of course I do, but I still feel bad."
