It was now Halloween night, and after a delicious feast, Ed was ready to go to bed- until the Slytherin prefect Gemma Farley came into the common room.

"Everyone, please listen up. You are all requested in the Great Hall immediately," she announced.

"What's going on?" Lance asked Malorie and Ed as they walked to the Hall.

"I don't know, but I'm tired," Ed complained.

They had astronomy with the Ravneclaws the previous day, and because certain stars and planets could only be seen at midnight, Ed didn't end up going to sleep until 1 in the morning.

Dumbledore soon entered the Great Hall, and (almost) all their questions were answered.

"The teachers and I need to conduct a thorough search of the castle," he informed.

"I'm afraid that, for your own safety, you will have to spend the night here. The head boy and girl will be in charge, and the prefects will guard the entrances to the Hall. Any disturbance should be reported to me immediately."

"Oh, yes, you'll be needing..." he started as he waved his wand, which made hundreds of sleeping bags appear.

The teachers soon left, and everyone started talking once again.

The Gryffindors immediately told everyone what happened; the whispers were quiet enough from everyone else that Ed could hear what they were saying.

"The poor Fat Lady, her canvas was slashed and completely torn," Hermione explained.

"How did he get in?" Others asked.

"Maybe he apparated?" Someone suggested.

"Honestly, am I the only person who's read Hogwarts: A History? There are enchantments, you know. You can't just apparate or disapparate on castle grounds..." Hermione explained.

"But why is he here?" Ed asked her friends. They were too far away to talk to the Gryffindors anyways.

Lance and Malorie shrugged and laid down to go to sleep.

"Because of Potter, of course," Malfoy replied.

"What do you mean?"

He thought for a moment, then decided to tell her.

"Father told me Sirius Black is Potter's godfather," he whispered.

"He was the one who turned Potter's parents in to You-Know-Who. That's why they're dead-"

"The lights are going out now! I want everyone in their sleeping bags and no more talking," Percy Weasley, the head boy, yelled.

But they continued their conversation anyways.

"So you think he's here to kill Harry?" Ed asked anxiously.

"Hopefully," he said maliciously.

She gave him a look.

"Oh come on, Dumbledore wouldn't let anything happen to his most prized student anyways."

"Yeah..." she agreed.

They went to sleep after that, but Ed didn't sleep well at all. She was twisting and turning in her sleeping bag all night long because of the cold, hard, stone floor, and the possibly of a murderer being in the castle didn't sit right with her.

Apparently Malfoy had the same problem.

"Why do we have to sleep on the ground like peasants?" he complained to himself.
