A Different Beginning ~ Part 37 ~ Updated: 1/22/15 Late Evening

My mind barely had time to process as my body shifted forward moving to Nathan. His blue eyes meeting mine and I saw the pain. “Honey.” I whispered under my breath and then my eyes met Gabriel’s blue eyes as well and they were filled with anger and pain. “Meanie…” I whispered and slipped Nathan’s other arm over my shoulders helping lead him to the cot. The injured helping the injured. I couldn’t help but smirk.

“Pookie help Nathan lay down. Make sure he moves slowly no letting him get up. Gabe come over here to the sink.” Dr. Green was in charge and I took over for Gabriel with a nod as his eyes met mine. Carefully and slowly I helped Nathan sit on the cot. He couldn’t hide the pain in his face as he shifted into a sitting position. My eyes searched his face.

“Where?” I whispered looking for  the source of the pain. He hesitated and I wanted badly to smack him but contained myself. “Where Nathan?” I asked again pushing a little harder as I met his eyes.

“My side.” He responded and I heard his voice crack softly. My eyes widened and I nodded very gently slipping to his side shifting the other’s shirt up very slowly. A bruise was forming already and it was very large, starting from his lower hip to the bottom of his ribs. I bit my lip thinking of the pain it must have cause and recalled my mother’s attack. They were shaped like the tip of a shoe. Pushing the memories away I moved on autopilot moving over to the cabinets pulling out the first aid kit. Quickly searching through the box I found some cream and I came back over. Nathan’s eyes were wide and I softly placed a kiss on the side of his head right near his eye.

“Breathe.” I responded and he smirked a little. I smiled back and lightly tugged at his shirt. “This needs to come off.” Stunned Nathan stopped and I could feel the blush rising through my neck. “I mean it is going to get in the way when I put the ointment on and you don’t want it sticking.” My mouth rushed out as I tried to explain. He laughed softly and shifted a little.

“I know Peanut.” He smiled and slowly started to take it off when I saw his body tense in pain and I quickly stopped him.

“Nate.” I warned and caught his hands stopping him and I shifted in front of him. My hands grazed his chest as I slowly pulled the shirt off his midsection and over his head. He held his hands still as I worked the shirt off so that it wouldn’t hurt as badly. I put it on the side of the bed and my eyes met his blue eyes once more. He nodded slowly relaxing slowly and the pain disappeared from his eyes.

I knelt by his side as I applied the cream to some swabs and lightly touched them to the bruises. They would last about two weeks without the cream but I knew it hurt even with the light swab. My eyes met Nathan’s and I saw how tense the male’s shoulder’s were. He was forcing himself to endure the pain. I paused moving my hands away and Nathan’s arms relaxed for a moment. “Take a breath Nathan.” I whispered watching his movements. His eyes widened and he slowly did inhaling and then exhaling. My eyes searched his face as he relaxed more and then I placed a hand squarely on his chest. “Again please.” His eyes met mine and he took another breath.

I closed my eyes listening and feeling with my hand. I was looking for something and I felt it. There was a slight hitch of breath that Nathan had either hidden or didn’t notice but the bruise had affected his breathing even if it was only a little. This also meant that none of his ribs were in serious trouble. “Peanut?” His voice was soft and I opened my eyes meeting his. “What’s wrong?”
