The weather was getting extremely wintry and frosty, everyone thought it was just a passing phase. Heaters were like a fan with no motor while blankets felt like a piece of tissues against people's bodies. Nothing seemed to be effective towards the cold. Fire wouldn't last long because everything had turned into ice, so the ice would slightly melt destroying the fire.In the human world, it was far worse, thousands of people were dying each day. The temperature was minus thirty degrees, a human body could only withstand so much. People were dying like ants. And no scientist could figure out what was the reason behind the extreme weather, all they knew was global warming.
Most of the citizens, supernatural and natural were stuck indoors because walls looked like they were built of ice, it was hard for doors to open because of it. Processed foods were scarce as Bismuth crystals, cooking was another huge task given that stoves were ice cold too.
Witches attempted to cook different spells as a solution but they had insufficient power, wolves were also dying like ants. Vampires were lucky enough to be surviving... Immortality came with perks.
Yamkelwe went to Nora and asked her to organize him some strong sedative herbs.
"I don't have much to harvest, master. Everything is icy" Nora explained, her voice quivering while her lips were trembling. Yamkelwe was saddened by the sight. He had to do something..."Work with what you have, Nora. It's urgent. I promise it will be worth it"
Yamkelwe sat there watching Nora mixing her herbs, she would occasionally drop things. Probably because she couldn't feel her hands. After a whole lot of struggling, she finally came up with something.
"It goes well with tea or soup," she said, handing the product to Yamkelwe.
Yamkelwe took it, patted her shoulder in acknowledgment, and went to the kitchen to prepare butternut soup, it wasn't warm enough but it was something. He headed to the main bedroom where Bongeka was sitting still by the window, staring at it as if she could see outside.
"Sweets," Yamkelwe said, holding her hand leading her to bed and making sure she was at least close to being warm. He made her wear multiple socks and big gloves and covered her in multiple blankets. Her neck was covered with a fur scarf. And then the beanie in her head.
"Sweets you never told me what you did to the witches?" Yamkelwe asked handing her a bowl of soup. He was also affected, his skin was more pale than normal and his voice was throaty and shaky. But his cappuccino eyes always did justice for him, he was still a hot mess.
"Nothing much, I just outsmarted them," She said, pushing the soup spoon from the front to back to catch a mouthful. "I love it, you should share the recipe"
Was she being random or she was just shying away from the topic?
"How did you do it?" he gave her a stony look
"They wanted me to be their source of power. They thought they were channeling me but it was the way around" that confirmed his suspicions.
His hands swiftly caught the bowl that Bongeka dropped by mistake. She was feeling light-headed and her eyes were heavy.
"Don't fight it, sweets, it's for the best" he kissed her forehead, stood up, and headed to the door.
"What did you do to—" just like that it was lights out for her.

It's been five days since Bongeka was knocked out, Yamkelwe kept on forcing the herbs down her throat regularly. The weather wasn't entirely back to normal but it was better, there was a snowfall for the first three days, everything started melting. Living creatures could now successfully make fires, cook, and sleep in peace without feeling like they are in a morgue. Even in the human world, death cases decreased although most of the humans caught flu and pneumonia, everything was gradually getting back to normal. Which confirmed that Bongeka was the reason for the disaster.
